Let me begin by saying I grew up going to a catholic grade school and went to church just about every sunday until I went to college where I lost the desire, until luckily I truly found the faith and accepted Christ into my life only a couple of months ago. I just finished reading an incredible book called "The Dream Giver" by Bruce Wilkinson and found it to be one of the most inspiring experiences of my life. Through the entire thing I found myself reflecting on past occurences in my life and was in total awe of how God had been directing my life and the book helped give me a direction and to help me realize my dream. I strongly encourage everybody to read this book, its a very easy read and I feel it has truly changed my life for the better. After reading the book I passed it on to a friend of mine in hopes it would change her life like it changed mine, and I simply told her to pass it on to another dreamer when she was through with it. Anybody else have any great religious books they'd like to reccomend? I'll be working at a summer camp starting next week and can think of no better way to spend my few hours a day of free time than by emersing myself in a great book while surrounded by God's beautiful outdoors.

I highly recommend the Holy Bible in the King James or NIV version. I heard alot about it all my life while going to church. One day Ipicked it up and started reading itwith my own eyesand foundthat there was alot more in it than I was being told.Itis amazing!Man does not live on bread alone but the very words of God.

I agree with Ray, other books are fine, but nothing compares to the faith, comfort, inspiration, and guidance found in the KJV of the bible. It just can't be beat for any occasion.
Read the bible, it doesn't matter if it is KJ version. We don't speak in KJ language today, we speak in modern english, thus picking a translation that you can understand is better than picking a "traditional" translation and not being able to understand.
I highly recommend the book called " the gift of fear". It's by no means a religious based read, but i may just keep you alive in a given situation, I have given it to just about everyone I love. so That's my choice

I think it goes without saying the ultimate importance of the Ultimate Book.
However I believe this thread was started talking about the inspiration and joy that can be got from "contemporary" writers who may be inspirerd and guided by the Holy Spirit.
A couple years ago I started reading some C.S. Lewis books. One is "MERE CHRISTIANITY" (ISPN 0-06-065288-8 cloth, 0-06-065292-6 paperback)
Sometimes I read a bit in bed before going to sleep. This was not a good book for that as it got my mind energized and thinking rather than relaxed and sleepy. I fond it a little hard to read and often had to re read a section to get the meat out of it. But there are certianly some nuggets to be gleaned from it if you put in the effort.
Lewis was a stanch "non believer" till he was converted to a "believer". (kind of like Paul)
I am not saying there are not good Chritian books out there. I just want to know about the man who wrote them. We are so easy to take in words from someone who calls themself a christian. I dont want to read a book by a man who has a demon or is full of darkness claiming to be filled with light.

"23 Minutes In Hell" by Bill Wiese is a real eye opener. It actually made me think about what hell isREALLY like, something I don't think people really take into consideration. This book was life changing for me.Took me two days to read it, I couldn't put it down. We hear about heaven all the time being Christians and rarely about what it is actually like in hell, that I think people almost have a false sense of what hell really is. This book makes you want to save every person you walk by on the street.
Duffy, you're right on track w/ the topic of this thread, the Bible was an obvious choice for an inspiring read, andi'm looking for somebooksthat aren't quite as mainstream as the Bible.I totally agree with your opinions of "Mere Christianity", that was the other book i picked up at the time i got "The Dream Giver" and it is definitely a more complicated book and takes some thorough reading to make sense of. I've not yet finished that one but it's next on the list. Thanks for the other ideas guys, keep em coming.

Schobsand IntroC, I know what you mean about just reading a good book. My wife reads EVERY nite and on Trips.
However, sometimes the Writters put things in there for intertainment and it might not be held side by side with the Bible. These are the things you must be prepared for. And you probably know this. Our preacher Quotes Lewis a lot. I have never read his books.
And of course a good thing to remember is that the Bible is inspired of God. All other Book are not.
