Christian Apologetics: Watch Out for the Intellectual Trap
Christian apologetics has one significant danger -- falling into the trap of relying on one"™s own intellectual abilities to try and wrestle someone into the kingdom of God. The following is taken from an essay by Matthew J. Slick of the Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry (it is copied by permission of the CARM web site, and may not be altered or sold).
Christian Apologetics: Rely on God, Not Knowledge
Christian apologetics can foster a prideful heart. Pride hides itself in the heart so it cannot be seen. When we find ourselves relying on our knowledge instead of God's word, mercy, and grace, then we have fallen into that trap. It is not reason that converts, but God's Spirit. It is not logic that draws us to God but Jesus (John 12:32). It is not evidence that convicts a person of his sins, but the Holy Spirit (John 16:8). That is why we need to rely on God and trust that He will use our defense of the truth for His glory and their benefit.

To ignore prayer in apologetics is to be prideful. It is the same as saying we don't need God. But we do. We need to pray for those who are lost, pray for their minds to be opened, pray that God's word will ring true to them, pray that our witness will be strong, and pray that the evil one will not have a foot-hold with them or with us. We are fighting a spiritual battle and need spiritual tools. Prayer is perhaps the most important of them all. It is the Lord who opens the heart and mind, not you (Acts 16:14). Ask God for guidance (John 14:14). Ask for blessing in your understanding (James 1:5) and your speech (Colossians 4:6). Ask the Lord to also open their understanding to Gods word (Luke 24:45). This is what He does. Prayer brings humility to the one praying. It admits dependence on God. If we are humble and depended on God, we are more likely to hear His voice. Prayer means that you are seeking divine intervention. It works power to your words. It changes your heart. It moves you closer to God.
Christian Apologetics: Study Should Never Replace the Power of God
Christian apologetics is not the end goal and being a great apologist is not a badge of honor to be worn by the Christian as a demonstration of his intellectual abilities. Rather, it is a response to the calling of God upon all Christians (1 Peter 3:15) that is to be undertaken with love and humility: love of people and humility before God. Never let your study and practice of apologetics replace the power, received by faith, in prayer before the Holy Creator. Ask God to empower your words and open the hearts of those with whom you speak.... and then study and witness to the best of your abilities.

IMO it's a thin line with little room for error either way. Strait is the gate and narrow is the way that leadeth to life, and few there be that find it. The priest that did service in the Tabernacle had to eat the "shew" bread, Jesus is the word made flesh. He is also the "bread" of life. Search the scriptures for in them ye think ye have eternal life, for these are they that testify of me, ect. Yet he had no light to find the bread if the light was gone out in the Golden Candlestick. Jesus said, "the words that I speak, they are spirit and they are life". One cannot walk in the Spirit without the word. One cannot know what the word says without the enlightenment of the Spirit. IMO one must have both working together.

I think it depends on what one is trying to glean from that post TF. If a person studies the Word in order to be intellectual then he is not being led of the Holy Spirit. On the other hand if one does'nt study the Word then he's closing himself off to the work God did in preserving His Word.
God feeds us thru His Word and it just goes hand in hand with prayer and reliance. It's never us or what we know that draws anyone to Christ, but the drawing of the Holy Spirit. Being equipped by study of the Word, prayer, fasting, and being connected is our making ourselves available for the Spirit to use us as an instrument in my opinion.

I believe this 100%. When we think what I say, rather than what God Says. Will Draw anyone, we got another think coming. However, most of us believe what we say is God's Word. The Power is in the Word, not us.

I don't know how Knowledge could not be important. I believe it is the Attutide of the person. Anyone knows that the Knowledge of Math will not Save anyone. Then the Bible says come and let us REASON Togeather. Logic is not a bad thing, used correctly. Then this last sentense The HS convicts, he does but its Thru, The Word. If it wasn't we would not have to do anything. We would not have been told to go into all the World.

I believe this is True.

Now before anyone get offended. This was a Brother who wrote this. I should have not even posted it. But it was hard to understand his reasioning behind it. IMHO!
