I am directing this question to you primarily as I think you will have the knowledge to best correct me if I am in error.
The bible states that Jesus would be in the heart of the earth 3 days and 3 nights. I cannot arrive at the correct number of days and nights by useing the modern teaching concerning the burial and ressurection as taught in the traditionalEaster services.
Is the following timeline closer to the actual events as transpired in reality?
Jo 19:14-16 Jesus delievered for crucifixion at the 6th hour, (12 noon).
Jesus died at 6PM as did the other Passover lambs, (Jesus being the Lamb of God, Our Passover).
Jesus died on the day of preparation.
The Passover Sabboth began at 6 PM requiring Jesus to taken from the cross before the Sabbath begin, (Passover Sabbath), which was the 14th day of the month.
The 15th day of the month begin The Feast of Unleavened Bread, another Sabbath day.
The 3rd day was the weekly Sabbath.
We now have 3 Sabbath days in a row.
Each day beginning at evening and ending the following evening, making one day and one night. The weekly Sabbath was always Saturday. Jesus was gone before daybreak Sunday AM, the first day of the week.
Wouldn't Jesus have to have been crucified and placed in the tomb Wen. evening in order to fulfill the scripture?
I don't have time today to answer all of it, as I have to go to the doctor in half an hour.
But I will give you a premise, first Jews do not count or counted days in those days as we do in the west.
The Jewish day begins at sunup and end at sundown, time such as you mentioned 6PM etc is irrelevant.
And In Judaism there are different Sabbaths not just the Sabbath which is equivalent to Saturday.
Passover would be a shabbaton meaning a great sabbath.
Why the Jews count a day from Sundown to sunup and vice versa is because of the way God Counted a day in Genesis 1.
I have a study did in my website, I have to find it and then I will share it with you, explaining the events as they took place from a Jewish perspective.

Thanks, I will look forward to it.
My reasoning for the day beginning at eveningwas based uponGen 1, where in creation each day was refered to as, "the evening and the morning was the day". Evening was always mentioned first and morning last.
TThis is how I see it
THE THREE DAYS IN THE TOMB DAY ONE - THURSDAY (sundown Wednesday to sundown Thursday) - 15th of Nisan
Leviticus 23:5 designates the 14th of Nisan to be the day for observing Passover.Yeshua was placed in the tomb just prior to sundown on Wednesday and spent his first full night and day in the tomb beginning on the 15th of Nisan, the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Unleavened bread was pure bread.Yeshua was pure and undefiled and without sin. During the Jewish observance of this feast, some of the unleavened bread was to be hidden away by the father for a time, only to be brought out and eaten later. DAY TWO - FRIDAY (sundown Thursday to sundown Friday) - 16th of Nisan DAY THREE - SATURDAY (sundown Friday to sundown Saturday) - 17th of Nisan
Yeshua's body lay in the grave for the third night after his crucifixion. Sometime after sundown Saturday evening (the start of Sunday),Yeshua rose from the dead. Thus, he had been in the grave three days and three nights as prophesied. [Some argue from Luke 24:20-21 thatYeshua must have been crucified on Thursday, which would have had him in the grave Thursday night and Friday, Friday night and Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday morning.]
On Sunday morning, when the women went to the tomb with burial spices, they found the tomb empty. Sunday, as the "morrow after the Sabbath" after Passover was the Feast of Firstfruits (Lev 23:10-11; 1 Cor 15:20-23). In rising from the dead,Yeshua became the first-fruits of all those who die and yet will be resurrected to live forever.
That is how I see it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I want to get the time-line correct, as IMOa poor understanding of the Old Testament will result in a poor understanding of the New Testament.

No I don't think so, it is misunderstanding of Jewish customs that will do you in,LOL
The RCC made sure all Hebrewness of the Bible was taken away, Christians of the first Century understood more than Christians today.

Venator1, Feel free to add anything you want to the thread. I just wanted Kosherboy's imput as a Jew. The Old Testament scriptures was all the the early Church had to preach and teach from for several years. What they taughtfrom Moses, the Law, and the Prophets was what the New Testament Church was established upon. They all taught Christ from the Old writings. Salvation and prophecy are taught in the feast days. Paul said they brought us to Christ. The fulness of Christ agrees with the types and shadows that pointed unto him who was to come.
