Iappreciate the thought my friend but I don't care for Christian comedy..[&:]I apologize if that comes across too frank..I've just seen too many "Cool youth groups cool down hot Christiansin order to draw the numbers." I also hate rap..

Yes sir...touches home..my son back slid when he attended a youth group..

-We homeschooled them

- THey played 7 years of base ball

- nearly 2 yeasrs of martial arts..

We had no problemsduring those years.

it was later during the youth group ....
This is where new music is introduced while the small groups of kids drivie to whereever..
This is where they meet Sally Que who likes to touch
And Joey who likes guys.
etc/
Many of the activities during this age bracket are in individual cars..such as scanveger hunts etc..and lots of times the teen agers are not supervised..

PS the music starts with "Cool" lyrics put to rap and as they meet other youth they experiemnt with metal and evrything else under the sun.
Matt told me he was askedto have sex and do drugs many times..Thanks be to God he declined..

Our other son..has had problems..with the girls..BOTH with the music..I've thrown countless demonic CDs away..during that time..
Wenow have church at home.

The church was an evangelical church.I remember once in Sunday school and elderly man brother up the issue of music and was laughed to scorn Another Fatih church ..the youth leader {Pastor's son}got a teen pregnant..
Summary,
There is not enough adult supervision
They think the gospel wil turn the youth off so they add alot more stuff to make the dospel "Cool" forgetting that ...
"A little leaven leaventh the whole lump."

Also ..during the early years I was with them all the time..WE played basketball regulary with the neighbors..a multiculture group..Matt and Andy always got along with all kids although homeschooled and did not smoke , drink etc..and never dated. During martial arts I watched them and was part of their training as well at home...During baseball I was the pitching coach.fo r7 tears..WE fished and did everything together..Even now..Matt is my BEST friend..Andrew is serving a military tour as an M.P. The youth groups are very secretive and most just want you to drop their kids off and leave them. There was a need once for a youth group.leader and .My wife and I took it..She was told to resign..she had too much Bible in her curriculum..I was amazed..She had those tough kids enjoying learning the Word as well as some very good activities..Anyway..it didn't takeand one year dropping them off in a Missiionary Alliance youth group while Lyn and I prayed with the rest of the church in the sanctuarywe realized out sons were being transformed to the world.. I noticed first that their music CDs were changing..first to cool musicians..Christian of course and then everything from Guns and Roses to Ozzy. The girls were all over the boys
I didn't know this till it was too late..for the parents drop them off while you go to learn about Jesus in a separte building..There are some great youth groups out there but parents beware..no what's going on..
God bless,
C7

I'm in that "youth group" age group and I'll have to kinda second what Chuck says. I've never been in a youth group but it's commonly known that it's a great way to meet guys/girls if your parents won't let you hang out at the usual places or go to parties. There also tends to be less supervision because the sponsors usually assume that the kids at the "youth group" are "good kids." You also need to keep an eye on the "youth ministers." I'm not going to go into details but it's true that "youth groups" aren't necessarily what parents might think they are.

I don't care for rap but the guy had some good lyrics and does have some musical talent. As for youth groups, I think parents should monitor everything their kids are involved in and ensure that it's up to THEIR parental standards. Some churches do exercise good supervision in youth groups but that's something that a parent should confirm for themself. In my church, the youth pastors are both married (late 20's) and provide good examples. Chuck, it sounds like you should have considered another church from the experiences you described. A church that will lead people's kids astray does not deserve to teach anybody's kids about christianity.

Too many parents go ballistic when their kids challenge them at home but pay very little attention to what they do away from home.

Do your kids really need that big allowance? You don't think your daughter should wear thongs? Why are you giving her enough money to buy them and wear them when she goes out?

You don't want your kids using drugs? Drugs cost money. Can't get drugs if you don't have a big allowance.

Your kid spending the night at a friends house? Stop by and check it out. Make sure the other kids parents have the same values you have.

By the way....have values.

Corporal punishment doesn't hurt. I take that back. It does hurt, but only in the short term. The long-term effects are positive. Believe me, I know from personal experience.

The above suggestions are from a fairly mature teenager who still vividly remembers being a lot younger. And who is extremely grateful to her mother for doing a terrific job of bringing up an extremely happy little girl.
