Just a testimony on what God did for me and my daughter.
I was on assignment for Germany, my family and were flying out 6 NOV. My daughter and were only going to get to hunt opening day. I knew that we weren't going to get to enjoy the meat but my parents and relatives would love it. We hunted that morning and passed up numerous does. We made it toour deer blind about 5pm. The blind set next to a wheat field and there was a big feeder on the far end of the field 250 yards away. We had sat in the blind every evening the week prior just to see what might be around. We had seen her fork horn twice and saw several other bucks, the biggest being a basket rack 8. I did not have any intentions of shooting anything that we had seen.
About6pmthe fork horn came tothe feeder. My daughterdid not want the fork but the 8 pointer. We watched him what seemed to be forever and nothing else came out. It was getting darkfast and I told her that if she wanted to shoot a buck she better go ahead and take the fork. She agreed. She aimed her Ruger .243 at the buck and I was watching through my scope. The buck was standing straight inline with us with his head down. I told my daughter to wait for the broad side shot. It was getting darker and darker but the buck wouldn't move. Out ofthetrees and salt cedars camethisbuck that no one had ever seen. He came from the left fast, but he wasn't going to the feeder, he was going behind int towards the thick brush and the river. I knew if he made it to the brush we would never see it again. Iguess I was ameandad because I said " theres a big buck and I'm taking him. The buck got to the edge of the brush and stopped for a second to look at the fork and I made the shot. He dropped in his tracks. The fork ran towards the downed buck and darted off into the brush. "Wait" I told my daughter, the fork stopped, I can still see his head, he was looking back at the bigger buck. He made his way to the right and came to opening. I asked my daughter if she could see hima nd she said "yes". I said when you get a good shot, take him. I no more than got the words out of my mouth and "BANG". He jumped straight up in the air and headed into the brush. I knew she made a good hit, but he ran into the brush.
We made it down there to my buck and to me he was huge. He was my first whitetail buck. My dad made it to us from his blind. I told what had happened and we started looking for my daughters. Her ran maybe 20 feet and fell dead. The range on my buck was 280 yards and the range o my daughters was 300 yards. I used my .300 RUM 180 gr. bullet and she used her .243 80gr. bullet. It was her first buck also. What a hunt! Thank you God for the blessing! It was the only day we were going to get to hunt. He made that day for us.
Hers was a fork and mine was a 10 pointer.
Had to tell you guys our Blessed hunting story.
