Default Spirituality of the Outdoors

I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this here. This forum seems more of a "Christian" forum than a "Religion" forum, but just wanted to post it out there to see if others feel like I do...

Do you ever feel the most peacefull in the woods?
Do you walk along the shores of a river bank and feel like it is the most spiritual place on earth?
Regardless of what religion you subscribe to, do you feel a connection to the natural world?

I often find that when faced with worldy problems, regardless of where I am at, all I need is a little bit of nature to ease my mind and feel at home. I found this out the most when living in the Oakland, California area. When I was troubled all I needed was to go up to a small wooded park above the Oakland Hills, walk along the deer trails, and soon I was feeling relaxed and at ease.

Just curious on how others feel...

I agree. I have the same feelings.

There are also other things in my life that affect me the same way. Like when I'm holding my baby or when my husband takes my hand while we're walking.

One of the reasons we feel in Awe of nature is because God Created it all. In the Woods, Creek Bank, River, Sea, Cave, Green Field, You name it. God Made it all! I think the Solace of it all makes us take notice. No interuptions, Cell Phones, Traffic, Noise maybe helps us focus. And if you think about God it will be remembered as a Spirituall experience.

However, to Worship God, must be done differently. I am sure you are not subtituteing Nature for Worship. Some want to call their Sitting in a Deer Stand or Fishing their Worship to God. It just don't Wash! God must come first are not at all.

I used to feel that way about being outdoors. I fly three and four days a week, being up there gives me that feeling of peace and tranquility.
Maybe cause I feel closer to Him up there...

I totally understand where you are coming from. However we must understand that no matter how peaceful and beautiful God's creation is, we must worship the creator and not the creation. Being in nature shows us how much God cared for us to creat such a beautiful world and thus is why we "feel" closer to Him when out in His beautiful creation. But, each time I am out there, I fully understand that no matter how beautiful it is,the one and only living loving God created it for us to enjoy. We must always worship the creator and enjoy His creation, not worship the creation.

Also, the scriptures teach that no man is without excuse. Even nature speaks volumes of God's existance and His love for mankind. But, no matter how beautiful the creation is, the creator is the only one worthy of praise and worship. But, in order to do this, we must deal with Jesus Christ in our lives.

"For God so loved the world that HE gave HIS only Son, that whosoever believith in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

The world is a beautiful place, but enjoying it will not save us. We must make a decision about Jesus Christ in our lives.

Thanks for posting Trouthunter.

IMO this is because we were made in Gods image,,just like when God looked at creation and said it was good and on the sixth day He looked at all He created and saw it was VERY GOOD. Gods image in us enables us to be able to appreciate beauty and see that it is good

I think I posted this in the wrong place. I never meant it as a"replacement" or alternative for worship, or really even had God in the equation. I think the term "spirituality" shouldn't have been used either, as many relatesomething spiritualto something Godly. Iment itas more of an instinctual thing. Something that makes us feel at home in nature. Something "wired" in us that may stem back to our hunter/gatherer days.

I'mmoving this to a different area because I was hoping fora discussion otherthanChristian thought and scripture reference.

I don't know. How could anybody look at the beauty of nature and say it just happened. And then to top it all off here we are looking through our eyes,in themselves quite a development, able to see it. Its for us, no doubt.

Thank God for it all.
