Default Religion and Politics

I know it's a ways off, but I'm already hearing/seeing a lot of stuff about the Presidential election (and I don't watch much tv). This has me wondering.....

Do your religious values affect who you vote for? Or do you more tow the party line?

I've always considered myself independent--Ivote for the person, not the party. However, especially in big elections, we have one party who's national platformincludes abortion rights, "alternative lifestyle" rights, pushing for "acceptance" of anything but Christianity in schools and public places......this sways my vote considerably.

I know there are individuals on either side who oppose some of the national platform--that's not what I'm talking about.

Iknow folkswho are quite dedicated to thier Christian religion, but even so will still vote down party lines--the same party that supports the above. I've never understood that. Just wondering if anyone here can comment on that.

For me, everything I do must be tested with the Bible and it's values etc. The same goes for political voting. The country may say we must separate church and state, but I don't have to when I vote.

Chad, I agree very much with you when it comes to politics. I vote for the one I think will best serve the needs of the people. I don't have an abundance of confidence in political christians. They fall into the catagory with sinful saints.
The powers that are in place at the moment, are only going to allow us the choice of a small handful of selected "yes" men, this time "persons" to choose from. History has shown that those who have the means, and the will, to becomes involved without forming ties with the established powers, are quickly ripped apart by the media, their reputation destroyed, and are left lying by the wayside as a warning to any who would concider such an effort in the future.
Senator Hart was destroyed by a picture of a woman sitting on his lap. He shouldn't have been in that position, but concider the actions, (proven actions) of some in the Oval office in the recent past. Those are still among the leaders of our country. A bumper sticker said, "Kennedy's car has killed more people than my gun". I vote, but don't think it changes anything after you leave the local offices. It allows me to complain legally.

http://www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php#Preamble

Constitutioin party platform is a good read. They say they would do away with the IRS, but it is their overall platform that seems appealing, especailly from a christian standpoint. Too bad so many vote the two party system, believing a third pary don't stand a chance ( And to a large degree that at the present seems to be true)

I'm with Chad on this one too. I'll say it, the Democratic party doesn't usually side with our Christian values which tend to be conservative. The Republican party used to be better at representing our views, but they've lost their nerve and the media usally attacks them when they do stand up for our values. A third party candidate might be good, but they never stand a chance against the main two parties. I know that none of the current candidates on the left (read dems) will get my vote.

A third party can stand a chance IF enough christians stand up. I bet the Isralites said David didn't stand a chance against Goliath. Good thing David didn't listen to them. My father taught me that when I vote, it matters even if I am the only one for or against that topic that is being voted for. I truly believe that if all the true christians got out and voted and listened to the Holy Spirit, we could make a change in this country and bring it back to One Nation Under God. But if we think we can't, then we wont. Just something to think about.
