I've been sick the last few days and unfortunately missed going to church on Sunday. This Sunday's sermon was the 2nd in a 3-part series about communicating with God through prayer and was to have addressed "dropped calls." Our pastor is very inspirational and well-researched in his sermons. Since I missed a good sermon, I was wondering what other member's Sunday sermons were about for last Sunday.

1. Main theme..."it is a terrible sin for some churches to deny commuion to others for any reason...fo rnone of us are truly worthy."
2. 2nd message...conquering the thought life..mesage was taken from Phill.4
a. learn ot identify and take captive the bad thoughts ...and recieve and act on the godly thoughts..
Phil4:8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me"”everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
I've definitely had my share of troubles this past year and have taken to listening to a christian rock station. Hearing more about God's blessings and wonders definitely does help and keeps me focused upon God's word a lot better. There's a lot of wisdom in that passage.

We pretty much had a Holy Ghost worship service sunday. I heard a good sermon today tho entitled "Rejoicing in iniquity". It was really thought provoking to me in that folks very often "rejoice" when they see a brother or sister fall or fail, or get their "comeuppance".
At first I thought "not so", but then in reflection when I looked at "rejoice as something other than just jumping up and down shouting I could see that sadly all too often christians as well as sinners are guilty of this. I mean think about it, look back over the scandles involving tv evangelists, personal aquaintances, or even here in the religion forum . . . .folk rejoice in iniquity.

That is a very good point. Wishing bad things upon others or just being happy that bad things happen to others are both not very Christlike. That sounds like a really thought provoking sermon.

Sunday's sermon was about the essence of faith as being completely trusting God to do what you cannot do for yourself. It was presented as being an ultimate issue of who is in control of your life--is Godin charge or are you.
That sounds like a good sermon also. Trusting God is and should be part of our faith in him. I've also noticed that life runs much smoother when I decide God is running the show and just follow his lead.
