Default Any Catholics?

I could use a little bit of advice if there are any Catholics on this forum. My boyfriend is Catholic, very strict Catholic, and would like to be married in a Catholic Church. I was raised a Christian, but not anything strict or Church-going. I would like to honor his family's beliefs, and my family sees no problem with it. I was wondering what the steps were to becoming a Catholic, I know a few things, but have always been a bit weary of Churches and a bit afraid of the Ministry. Any advice is welcomed.

I'm in the process of converting. You go to instructions about the faith for about six months and then you are confirmed, and baptized if you haven't been. Adults like us get confirmed and baptized at the Vigil Mass on Easter. You don't have to have been baptized as a Catholic.

It's very interesting. You get to learn a lot. You've probably gone to mass with him so you know what that's all about. My mom is also converting. The guy she just married is Catholic just like my husband.

After we both join, we're going to have a joint wedding in the church.

It's a really nice thing. When I talked with the priest back when I first started thinking about it, he told me I was already a member of his flock.

I can't receive communion yet, but when I go up in the line, he gives me, and now Miriam, a blessing. The funny thing is that I really feel it.

Hope this is some of the information you wanted.

I could use a little bit of advice if there are any Catholics on this forum...I'm not Catholic ..but would like to chime in.My boyfriend is Catholic, very strict Catholic, and would like to be married in a Catholic Church...I'm not sure whatyour diffinition of a very strict Catholic is...not trying to be funny here..I've met some very strict catholics in the army...They were charismatic catholics andJesus was Lord of their lives. I was raised a Christian, but not anything strict or Church-going...My friend...then you were simply raised to go to church..There is a world of difference from going to church every Sunday and serving Godas a Christian..There are many who have gone to church their whole life and still don't know Jesus..To know Him is found when you die to self...and seek His will alone. It's a cost. It's not free as some may think. Jesus said ."Unless you can take up your cross daily and follow me you can not be my disciple." I'm not trying to sound grim here..just telling the truth. When I met my wife she was not a Christian..Itold heryou better read the New Testament through first tosee where I'm coming from. She read it..and got a very sober face and said "This Christianity stuff is nothing to play with..either you and I are going all the way with it or not at all. " With that statement..Iknew I wantedto marry her. I would like to honor his family's beliefs, ..I personally wouldn't ...I would read the Word for myself from Matthew to Rev. and then make my decision..The Catholic religion has alot of differnces from most Christian denonminations and churches..It would be sad if you learned all that later. and my family sees no problem with it.Your family is not the one you have to answer to my friend..don't trust your spiritual well being to anyone but God..and He has given you all the instruction you will ever need in His Word.I was wondering what the steps were to becoming a Catholic, I know a few things, but have always been a bit weary of Churches and a bit afraid of the Ministry. Any advice is welcomed. Since you said any advice is welcome..is why I gave mine.I know it may seem a little harsh but trust me it's spoken with concern...Christianity is MUCH more than goingto church..that's about 10% of it..90% is living the life..If Jesus is ever Lord of your life..you will be one blessed young lady.

Sincerely,
Chuck7

You do not have to be a Catholic to marry your loved one in a Catholic church. You can meet with the local priest and come to a understanding. I did this 43 years a go. Three years ago I became a Catholic.
I am a Strict Catholic and I can tell Chuck has no idea. Catholics don't just go to church. The whole service is a worship service. In fact if you go to different churches you will determine that quickly. He is just another of many people who will be trying to interfere in your decision. Be strong. It is between you and God. It took me 40 years to get rid of all the crap I had been taught about the Church. As the famous Bishop said no one hates the Catholic church for what it is only what they think it is.
It is very important for you to make the correct decision for the right reason. No one not even your boyfriend should sway you.
That being said The Church has a program for potential converts called the RCIA when you decide to convert. I firmly believe God will come to you.
As far as the Catholic church being different, Somewhat. You will find there is a reason for that. You will find that religions in the west are for the most part based on the Catholic Church as far as doctrine. You will find quickly on this board everyone thinks they know about Catholics.
Take no ones advice, find out for yourself. Believe me they don't even have a clue.
Praying for you

God bless

A strict Catholic would not have written this.A strict Christian is one who is devoted to God and the law of love is in his heart..I did my best to write what I did in love.

I am not anti Cathoplic..my best man was Catholic and a Catholic was a big part of me being saved..They were both Charismatic Catholics. Catholics who had Pentecostal experiences.

Huntinggirl; As a non-catholic, let me offer some advice that would IMO apply to anyone who is concidering, "joining " a church. First one doesn't "join" the church, he is "born" in her.
To join a churchto please another is the wrong reason. There should be much study of different beliefs in order to under stand what the differences are, and why you believe the one chosen is preaching the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. It is the truth that makes one free, not joining an organization. If truth isn't reason for joining, as far as salvation is concerned, you would do as well to join the "Moose", "Elks", "Girl Scouts", ect.
I am no trying to tell you that becoming a Catholic is the wrong thing for you to do. I have my reasons for not being a Catholic, but I wouldn't want to see you join a Oneness Pentecostal church just to please me. There needs to be some heart felt convictions before joining oneself to any religious group. This site will provide an insight to most christian, and a few non-christian, groups. This site is a great place to learn, learn what to do, and learn what not to do. Treat it like a watermelon, eat the meat, and spit the seeds.

I wasbrought upCatholic, and I know many in the Catholic church that love the Lord like many in other denominations. My ministry is made up of various denomination. I never preach denomination, I preach relationship. There are as many lost Catholics as there are lost Protestants, belonging to a church doesn't make one a good Christian. It's all about relationship with our Lord. Going to church makes one a Christian as much as walking into a car dealership would make one a car.

Special Catholics, I see. I know you said it in love. Heck some of your best friends are Catholic. Same here Chuck, My Mother was protestant. You just didn't want the little gal to do anything in a hurry As far as being devoted to God, looks like you may be judging people again. Not your job.

Bingo was a goodn Reb

First off, Thank You for all of your heartfelt advice.

No one is trying to sway me to go in any direction. This is actually the first time I have spoken of it to anyone other than my own family. I have read the Bible, and have come to my own conclusions. I have attended Catholic services in the past and found them tobe quite moving. This would be more of a suprise to him and his family for when the time comes.
