I have an opportunity to help people that are having problems with debt and I'm hoping to tie in some scripture with financial advice.
Can you guys help me out by posting any scripture you can think of that tells us how to handle our finances and how not to view the material things of this world?
1 Tim. 6:17Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; 18That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; 19Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
There is a ministry that specialises in financial matters called Crown Financial Ministries at www.crown.org. It was founded by Larry Burkette, who passed awy approximately a year ago from cancer. They should be able to send you some resources to help you, as well as provide some on their website. Matthew 6:33 is probably the most obvious as it speaks of theprioroities in life, and explains God's provisions once we have things in perspective. But, there are many more that I am sure Crown will outline for you.
Acts 2:
[44] And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
[45] And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
[46] And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
[47] Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
This is good place to show we need to help those who are Faithful and Need help. When I have showed this to some people their eyes lite up LoL I explain it would be hard to do this today because some would have IOU's We would be in a Commuine...LoL Good Luck!
As far as a biblical book goes... there's a book called God's Plans for your Finances by Dwight Nichols.
Deuteronomy 8:18
18 But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.
-"Sixteen of Christ's thirty-eight parables were on how people should handle earthly treasure." (42%)
-The Lord "taught more about stewardship (one out of every ten verses in the Gospels) than about heaven and hell combined. The entire Bible contains more than two thousand references to wealth and property twice as many as the total references to faith and prayer.
REMEMBER:
-"What we do with the things God has given us is very important to him"
Money is a TOOL.
Money is a TEST.
Money is a TESTIMONY.
"The point is not how much or how little you have; it's how you perceive and handle the resources God gives you."
It should be noted that the Bible does not condemn money, but rather the love of money that is a root of ALL evil" (1 Timothy 6:10)
No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24)
