Default Biblical commandment for us to Hunt!!

Peter's Vision: Book of Acts
About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners .It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."

That verse can be taken literally...But it was actually Peter's instructions to preach to the Gentiles as well as the Jews.......

I am with you, Vabowman. That was my interpretation, as well.

When I was teaching Acts to my SS class, I read this just as you did and had the same interpretation....I questioned our Pastor about it and he said, it was actually a reference to all nations of people, for Peter to bring them all into his preachings, not just the Jewish people...As you know, Peter ended up in Rome and is known as teaching to the Gentiles...Not saying one is right and one is wrong, that's just how it was explained to me...

This is a very cool verse...I use this and Genesis as well when I have folks that want to confront me on why I hunt...

The important thing is that you are reading and getting direction and strength from Him...

10And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. Acts 10:10-14 kjv.

Peter was a devout Jew and he was familiar with the Law of Moses which said there were only certain meats fit for food and others that were unclean. here God is showing him that all animals are clean and fit to eat..look at verse 15,
"And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common".

so when you look at it in it's context, he was hungry and God was telling him to eat what he wanted..
But just to add this does tie into the explanation of preaching to all peoples. Before it was just the circumcised Jews and we all know the gentiles were uncircumcised, clean and unclean. This is the epitamy of the New Testament. Salvation is for everyone and all of the old laws were fulfilled through Christ and there was no longer clean and unclean. Preach to the nations and that is the great comission comannded to us! When we look at all the verses it paints us a clear picture.

That's correct...That dream was God's way to let Peter know that all people, not just the Jewish were ceated by God and were all worthy of hearing His word....
The different animals of the earth were representative of all nations of people...

After having this dream, Peter went out and preached to all nations of people, not just the Jews....
