Default Sunday Sermonette

Would you believe it's almost November? yup, thanksgiving day is just around the corner..and we do have a lot to be thankful for, don't we? although this old world is full of strife and the storm clouds are gathering, God is still sending down blessings to each of his children..when i get a bad report from the doctor or our finances seem to be dwindling away, i always turn to Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose" what a wonderful promise that is, and my dear friends, He never fails you, He's always there, just a prayer away..
Father we thank you that you are a loving God and that you care for our well being..we pray today for those in need that you might by your wonderful grace, give us peace in our heart and soul and that we would draw closer to you..in Jesus name and for his sake we pray, Amen..11 And he said, A certain man had two sons:
12 And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
13 And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.
17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! Luke 15:11-17 kjv.A feed salesman was looking at a farmers hogs as they wallered in the muddy pen..Kinda puny he observed..What kinda feed you been givin em? Without hesitation the farmer said SLOP..slop, why with this super vitamin F, hyper potency hog food i can double the size of those pigs in no time! the salesman laughed and said in fact, i can double the size in half the time..the farmer considered this, then said, all is well and good, but what's time to a hawg?
being an ex hoosier i have slopped many a hog in my younger days and i can say up front, Slop is just what it sounds like, a nasty smelling bunch of spoiled garbage that is fit for only a pig.none of us would take slop over fried chicken, banana pudding, or sausage gravy..the prodigal son ate slop till he realized that his Father's servants ate much better than he did..
Then i ask you why, when given the choice of watching TV., reading books, listening to music, or reading the Bible, do we often choose the slop over the good wholesome meat of God's Word? why is it so easy to feed in the slop trough when we could feast on the banquet of God's Holy Scriptures? God's Word, what other book but the Bible, has the power to cleanse, to bring hope, liberty and light? the Bible does this and more..oh, i'm so ashamed that i don't read the Bible as much as i should..i have been reading it for 70 plus years and i still learn something every time i read it..David tells us in Psalm 119 of the power of the Scriptures..
"9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word."
"11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."
"24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors."
"45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts."
"105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
this is just a taste of what you can get at God's table and you can wash it down with that living water,
"Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water."John 4:10 need more reason to study
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15
1 Peter 2:2 says,"As newborn babes, we desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby."
so i guess what i'm saying is, desire God's Word and leave the slop for the hogs!Father thank you again for you Word, and i pray we will hold it in our hearts and become better servants for you..and Father if there is one here, lost and without a Saviour, may this be their day of salvation..We love you and thank you in Jesus name, AmenO soul are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There's light for a look at the Saviour,
And life more abundant and free.
Refrain
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His Glory and Grace.
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion -
For more than conquerors we are!
Refrain
.His Word shall not fail you - He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well;
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell.
Refrain

Amen! yes, only God's Word can give us that peace down deep in our soul. many times when the storms of life has overtaken me i would run to the valley and have my pity party as Elijah did and then when all i could do failed, i would look to Jesus and He would remind me, Bro. Wayne didn't i tell you i would never leave you nor forsake you? and then that peace that passeth all understanding would flood my soul and then and only then i knew everything gonna be alright..GLORY TO GOD WHAT A WONDERFUL SAVIOUR!!!!

Amen brother. Too many of us are being fed a diet of trash all day long. If we could measure the fat in our brains many of us would be embarrassed at what we eat. Great word.
As a cow chews the cud, we out to chew on His word continually, taking all day long to enjoy it!
Amen! What an awesome way to start the week.
Thanks
