what is Heaven ? scripture to back your view please
I was with my Dad on Sunday, missed church. The sermon was on urgency. Anyway, at the end, my pastor, a friend I know, was talking about the death of someone we knew, and that he was "saved" and how that was a great thing because he would get to see him again someday in "Heaven"
my question - does it say anywhere in the Bible we're going to see each other in Heaven again ?
RE: what is Heaven ? scripture to back your view please
Our names are recorded in heaven, and we will be known by our names,
"Not withstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven." Luke 10:20 kjv.
Moses and Elijah were known by Peter even though he had never seen them before.
"And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias."Matthew 17:3-4
Jesus said, "When ye shall see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God." Luke 13:28
the rich man recognized Abraham.
"And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom." Luke 16:23
I believe our recognition will be perfect in Heaven.. I don't think we would know less there than here on earth..the bible says in Psalms 17:15 that no matter what Jesus looks like i will know him.
"As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness."

RE: what is Heaven ? scripture to back your view please
Rebel Hog thanks, but that tells me nothing other than God created Heaven - I want to know what the Bible says Heaven will BE LIKE
motorOkay, God knows the names to be in Heavne, that makes sense because God is past, present and future. However, that doesn't help me with my question
In church, people will tell your children that they will see their GrandPa in Heaven, that they'll see their dog Rover again in Heaven, that the family will be together again in heaven ......... but I cannot find scripture that says anything of the such really.
In fact, I found where it basically says a man and wife will not be a man and wife in Heaven, marriage is an earthly thing, not of the afterlife, and it will have no place in Heaven between human spirits
RE: what is Heaven ? scripture to back your view please
this is from my home page-
Heaven I had the privilege of teaching the second through seventh grade Sunday school class for several years. I also taught a Bible class for many years. And in those years I have been asked many questions about heaven. Questions such as - Is heaven a real place? When I die will I go immediately to heaven? Will we know each other in heaven? What will we look like? Will we have a body? These answers are not my opinion, but what the Bible says. The Bible says that heaven is a real, literal place. "In my Fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a PLACE for you, and if I go and prepare a PLACE for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:2,3. So heaven is a place. Twice Jesus called it that. The last two chapters in the Bible, Revelation 21 and 22, tells of this wonderful PLACE that Jesus is preparing for His saints, it's called "the holy city." Heaven is a place of indescribable beauty. I Corinthians 2:9 - "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him." Heaven is a place of rest, peace, joy and love. YES, heaven is real!! Yes, when we, who are saved, die, we go immediately to heaven. II Corinthians 5:8, "We are confident I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." On a tombstone in London, England were found these words- Beneath these clouds, and beneath these trees. Lies the body of Solomon Peas, This is not Peas, only his pod, Peas has shelled out and gone home to God. There is no purgatory, or holding place written about in the Bible. As Mr. Peas, we go immediately to be with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Glory be to God!!! Yes, we will know each other in heaven-- Jesus said, "When ye shall see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God." On the mount of transfiguration, Moses and Elijah knew each other. The disciples recognized them. The rich man in hell recognized Lazarus and Abraham when he saw them together in heaven. "For now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face, now I know in part, but then shall I know even as also I am known." Yes, dear friend, we will have a body in heaven- II Corinthians 5:1 " For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." Here He is talking about our earthly body, and our heavenly body. When we die, our earthly body will be buried. If we are saved, our soul and spirit will go immediately to be with the Lord. When Jesus comes at the rapture, I Thess. 4:16 says, "The dead in Christ shall rise (come out of the grave) and meet Jesus in the air, then we will receive our new body, a perfect body, and will live with our Lord forever. Amen!!! Job says in Job 19:26 "And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God."
The most important questions is, who is going to heaven? Some say those who read the Bible, or those who pray, or live a good moral life, will go to heaven. Others say those that go to Church and tithe will make it. But Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Jesus went to the cross, suffered, and shed His precious blood, and died for you and me. The Bible says, without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. Romans 10:9 - "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth, the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." The only way to be sure of going to Heaven is to repent of your sins, received Jesus Christ into your heart, receive Him as your personal Saviour, receive Him as the one who died for you. Salvation is free!
From what i understand there will be no animals in Heaven as they do not have a soul..the only reference i have to it is in Psalm 49:12-15,
"12Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
13This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
14Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
15But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah

I couldn't readily put my hands on the reference, but David (when speaking about hisson who had died) said that his son couldn't come back to him, but that he could go to his son [eventually]. That may be what you were talking about in your thread.

RE: what is Heaven ? scripture to back your view please
First and foremost..I'd liek to say I'd follow Jesus even if there was no such thing or Heaven or Hell...
But lets look at your question. I beleive the Bible talks about 2 states of heaven..
A. Luke 17:20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Heaven is in the individual..Jesus said WE shall make our abode within you. Born Again beleivers have the Father and Son abiding within. ..and where they are ..Heaven is.John 14:23Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
B. There are many speakings in the Word about another world...
Let;s look at a few verses..
1. Luke 23:42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Revelation 21 1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
10And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; 12And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. 14And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. 16And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. 17And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel. 18And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. 19And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; 20The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. 21And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. 22And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. 23And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. 24And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. 25And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. 26And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it. 27And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
I beleive this to be real place ..
[/align] and a few more... 2 cor. 12:2I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth such an one caught up to the third heaven. 3And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth 4How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
and now..Heaven shall open up and Jesus with His army shall judge planet earth at the valley of Armegedon..read.on.
REv. 19:11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. 17And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. 19And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
