I know this is a bit off the subject but I need to ask.
I brought my daughter to the doctor yesterday for a physical, her shots, and had a question about a bee sting she had gotten the day before. When the doctor came in she asked me if I had a chance to talk to the nurse about vaccines. I told her that I gave the nurse her immunization records but that I knew she needed 3 shotsand which ones they were. The doctor was impressed that I knew what my daughter needed. I thought most moms were fimiliar with what their child needed when it came to vaccines so I was a bit surprised at that shock on her face. Then she had asked about t.v. and video games. I told her they were limited on time and what they watched played. They only watch pbs and only certain shows and that video games were skateboarding, motorcross, a racing game, fishing and a hunting game. Computer is limited to stricly educational benefit. I also told her we don't watch much t.v. either just so that we can limit what the children were exposed to, another shocked look. This is not the only time that a doctor has been shocked that I knew something about my children's medical care. This has been happening since I had Isaac. I was his mom and it was my responsibility to know medically what was going on so that when he came home I knew how to care for him. I needed to know what meds he was on so I could let doctors know in case of an emergency. I thought this was maternal. I asked my mother in-law about it yesterday when I called to let her know how things went and she said I was just good at medical knowledge, just gifted that way. But I have a hard time with that. I always thought a mom should know those things. What do you think? I don't know how to spit this out right so I pray I don't offend anyone with this but here goes....
It makes me feel sad if there are that many moms and dads out there that know so little of their child's health care. Awhile back Red Lion posted some numbers of how many christians.... It make me think of that list and if there were so many christians out there then why are doctors surprised moms know about their childs care? And then it makes me think I need to pray. So that is what I am going to do. Thank-you for letting me get this off my chest. God Bless and see you some time next week probably.
Yes Sis Katrina, my wife and I feel like you do. My wife took my son for his yearly physical every year until he graduated from high school and then he continued it on his own.
He's going to be 29 next month and he is still doing it every year. He goes every year to the Dentist to have the Hygienist clean them. He has never had a cavity and he is going on 29!
