Default bars?

I probably already know the answer to this. Should a christian go to a bar? I am not there to get drunk but just to have a few cold ones with friends.

No my friend, a Christian has no business in a bar..what you need to do is have a cold pepsi with your friends abd talk about Jesus..

Next time , you get the first round and order up a Pepsi. You will find out who is your friend. Tell them you are just there for a few cold ones. You will also find out the problem is yours not theirs.

God bless

I really like the expression "WWJD" What Would Jesus Do?

Was He not acused of spending time with sinners? There is great rejoicing in Heaven when a sinner is saved. What better place to help save a sinner than in a bar?

By having a good time and enjoying life without drinking in exess, by showing a life of love and a love of life, one can draw others to Christ.

Duffy i respectfully disagree with you on this subject..yes Jesus spent time with sinners, that's why he came here, to seek and save the sinner..but He didn't set around in a stinking bar and drink with them, He gave them the gospel and went on His way..

My recollection of the Bible is that sin isn't where you are, it's what you do while you're there.

My Preacher has Tuesday night winter meetings at a local pub..where a glass ofwine and the occasional cigar is enjoyed.

I don't doubt his faith or his methods.

Amen brother Motor. Next we will be committing adulty to save the consenting partner. May I have missed something here, someone help me out. Is their sinner's sin and christian sin? When the scripture commanded us to abstain from ALL appearance of sin, what did it mean? When we were commanded to let our light shine that men might SEE our good works, what was Jesus talking about? Didn't the scripture say something about some calling evil good, and good evil? Isn't there something said about come out and be seperate saith the Lord, or was it go down and indulge with them? I read once that the whole duty of man was to fear God and keep his commandments, again I remember hearing a man say, have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. If your in doubt if you should be there, try this biblical test, preach the gospel to them and let the chips fall where they may. I think you will find the answer pretty quick.

What about a strip club or a porno theater?

Jesus spent time with tax collectors and prostitutes, but did he collect taxes or engage in prostitution?

This begs a larger question, though: Is drinking sin? I feel confident that drunkenness is, but I haven't been convinced that use of alcohol is. That being said, I abstain from alcohol and do so to set an example. That is, even though I can't avoid all sin, I am doing what I can in this area of my life. I believe Paul was pretty big in teaching the merits of being a positive example for Christianity. The sinful nature of drinking is debated (Baptisits vs. Catholics?!?!), but drunkenness decreases one's ability to fight temptation to sin, IMO, in such a devestating way, it's best to just avoid it.

I don't have enough strength or willpower to sit in a bar and not get toasted, thats why I try not to drink one drop. With me after that first drink I am on my way to tying one on, wether I am right with the lord or not alcohol has always been one of my major downfalls. So I stay out of the bars.
