Default 'Deathly Hallows': Does 'Harry Potter' have a Christian legacy?

Aug. 6, 2007 issue - Have you finished reading? What do you think? Is Harry Potter a Christian story after all? Harry has made news, ever since his arrival on the scene in 1998, for provoking the ire of some right-wing Christians who believe his magical powers and wizardly aspirations"”not to mention his boarding school peopled with eccentric friends and demonic villains"”promote occultism and Satan worship.

"But what to do about the fact that in the last book Harry"”spoiler alert here"”walks willingly to his own death in order to save the world? After which, in a chapter portentously titled "King's Cross," he finds himself in a place with a "great domed glass roof [that] glittered high above him in the sunlight" talking to a father figure with "long silver hair and a beard" whose supernatural powers are accompanied by a profound message of love? And what, finally, should the reader make of the fact that after that intimate scene, Harry comes back to life and leads his friends to victory over evil?"

So Harry Potter is satanic? The books and the movies both? Is that the same for similiar material?

Sorcery and withcraft do not equal a christian background. It's a classic example of 2 wrongs don't make a right. It just doesn't work that way. Christaianity is not about being good- It is about faith in Christ and trying to live a Christ like life, which means that you have to do good for others in the proper way. Saying Harry Potter has a Christian background is like saying it is okay to be a prostitute as long as you donate all proceeds to charity.

It is a fantasy fiction book. I don't think it is any more satanic than the Star Wars Jedi stories and movies. The problem is when people start to attribute truth to fictional stories like DaVinci Code and Celestine Prophecy books. Are people just way more foolish than they used to be? I mean, it says "fiction" on the binding. There's a clue for you.
