Default Why Did Solomon...?

Why did he marry women from Egypt, Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, andfrom among theHittites, totaling up to seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines? God specifically told himnot tointermarry with those nations because they would lead them to worship their gods. Solomonwasthe wisest man in the world and the wisest any man wouldever be,shouldn't he have been wise enough (see the consequences of his decisions)to know thatGod would take everything away that was so graciously given to him. And, God said he would take care ofSolomon, as long asSolomonstayedtrue to him. Doesntseem very wise to meor are women really thatseductive to men? I say they really are and men need to be careful.

Default RE: Why Did Solomon...?

History reveals that Solomon was very aggressive in his foreign policy. In sealing treaties in ancient days, it was customary for a lesser king to give his daughter in marriage to the greater king (in this case, Solomon). Every time a new treaty was sealed, Solomon ended up with yet another wife. These wives were considered tokens of friendship and "sealed" the relationship between the two kings. It may be that Solomon was not even personally acquainted with some of these wives, even though he was married to them.
In the process of doing all this, Solomon was utterly disobedient to the Lord. He was apparently so obsessed with power and wealth that it overshadowed his spiritual life and he ended up falling into apostasy. He worshipped some of the false gods of the women who became married to him.

I guess in the end, the flesh took over and Solomon fell victim to sin.

I agree withmost whatwhat you said because that's what the word says but... wisdom is the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight, andSolomon being the wisest, I would haveexpected better from that. Also when you said is was obessed withpower and wealth, dont you think the wisest man in world could have puttwo andtwo together thatifhe married these women he would lose everthing hehadand would haveand notworth the risk?

Exactly! maybe Solomon felt that what he was doing was every bit of what wisdom stands for in his eyes.

In the book of Ecc. Solomon looks back on his life and gives us his insights so that we may be able to learn these lessons through his experience. When Solomon sought after money, women, power, respect, possesions, ect. he exacted it like an experament- he could not find anything that could full fill him---Only God could do that.

And yes women are conniving --- but let themselves be duped it is your classic Adam and Eve but seriously I don't think that this was Solomon's issue, he let desire, passion, and lust consume him. He allowed himself to be led astray, because of fleshlydesires, or he was thinking with the wrong head And I'll explain it like this, have you ever found yourself wanting to go to far with your girlfriend (sorry I forgot her name)
anyways if you think it is hard now it is even harder after you've all ready experienced it. All of these women probably had very different and that held all the appeal he needed
