27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.
30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all. Mark 14:27-31

Of all the apostles, probably Peter stands out to most of us as the one we can truly relate to. Open mouth and insert foot and do it on a regular basis. i know i have many times Sad, but many of us do this and we never learn what God has for us. Peter and Jesus were probably the only 'Jewish men' while the rest were 'Jewish boys'. The main reason is when Peter went to pull the shekel from the fish as Jesus told him to do to pay the temple tax, he only had to get one shekel( ½ shekel for each Jewish man ). If the others had been of age, there would have more than the one shekel in the fish. Peter we see as the rash acting individual and in this case, Peter declared regardless of all others, Peter would stand at Jesus side through whatever came their way. Jesus knew and let Peter know that what he was running off his mouth about was the flesh of Peter and NOT the Holy Spirit of God working in and through Peter. We see Peter later in this same chapter, do exactly what Jesus said would happen and then Peter weeps bitterly.The bible says, " all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." It also says in 1 John,"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." oh how many times have i had tears come to my eyes after i had said something i shouldn't or did something against God's will..i feel so ashamed when i sin.. Did he learn something from his actions? Yes, he did!!! Would he fail again? yes we all do, the human part of us is weak and sinful.. but the spiritual part of us cannot sin, so what we see through the rest of Scripture is the more a man depends upon God than on himself and his strength. For you and I this should be most exciting that God can and will use the vessels which come to Him. Learn to depend upon the Spirit of God and you will honor God by your actions. Peter did and we can take heart that he did. we all make promises to God that we don't keep, and we all will sin, but don't give up, God will still use you if you get back in his will..In my opinion other than Jesus, i think Peter and Paul were the greatest preachers of all times..Peter preached and 3000 souls were saved..he was the billy Graham of his time..how about you, have you let your sin keep you from serving God? let's all get on our knees and ask God to forgive us of our sins and get back to serving him..take it from and old man who has been there and done that, God will richly bless you..

Father thank you for thy precious Word..please forgive us of our sins and those times we have failed you..give us the strength and courage to stand up for you where ever we are and be a good witness..and Father if there is one here this morning lost and hell bound, may this be their day of salvation. in Jesus name and for his sake i pray, Amen..

I hear the Savior say,
"Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all."
Refrain
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.
Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power and Thine alone,
Can change the leper"™s spots
And melt the heart of stone.
Refrain

For nothing good have I,
Whereby Thy grace to claim,
I'll wash my garments white
In the blood of Calv'ry's Lamb.
Refrain
And when before the throne,
I stand in Him complete,
"Jesus died my soul to save,"
My lips shall still repeat.
Refrain

"There's room at the cross for you."

This has been a day of insight for me. . . .I'd never considered the significance of the one shekel.
I came upon another fact today that I had'nt before noticed . . .the book of Acts seems to be the only NT book that does'nt end with a amen.
