Anybody have either of these groups close to you. We've got some meninites a few minutes south of us and an new "district" of Amish are slowly moving into the area about 5 minutes north of us. I'm doing some research on their history and its kinda interesting. Did you know that Meninites actually came before the Amish?

We have several communities of Mennonites near us. A few years ago, I had the pleasure of doing business with a gentleman from their church, and as a result I learned a good bit about them that I did not know previously.
Mennonites do not shun technology like the Amish, they have many of the things you do. They use computers and the net for communication, business, and study. Some of them own televisions, but only use them to get news, not entertainment. They feel that entertainment media distracts them from their spiritual life.
They do not believe in charging interest for a loan or paying interest. They use a Mennonite bank in Kansas where they can borrow money if they really need to without paying interest.
I always felt like they were the original conservatives. They produce as much of their own needs as possible and they don't waste what can be put to use.
They are a very open society despite their reputation. You could go visit their church if you wanted without getting any strange looks, and I bet you would be welcomed and invited to lunch.
We have a little butcher /processor that are Mennonites. I don't know much about them. They stay to their selves, and are very industrious. Unlike the Amish they use the comforts of modern convenience, they drive, use electricity and so on. I am not sure how well they fare in geography. The first time I took a steer to have processed they asked for my name, I said Bob Jankowski, the girl looked deep in my eyes and said, "Your French huh?" I said yes!

And all the time I thought you were Puerto Rican!

I have a family that live across the street some of the nices people you would want to meet they do keep to then self but you could not ask for better people to live that close, Get to know them than are good people
There are a couple of branches of the followers of Mennow Simons that have large congregations in my area. The two largest congregations seem to hold a closer view to the oneness while the smaller is more trinitarian in doctrine. Very nice, faithful, hardworking, friendly people. I have attended some functions at their assembly, the public is always welcome, and they are very missionary minded. Children are schooled at the church school until 8th grade. I have had business dealing with them, sold to them, hired them, took some of them lion hunting with me, ect. Very fine folks.
