Dr. Kevorkian just released from prison after 8 years. Anyone here think that someone should ever be allowed to end their own lifewith assistance of others?
RE: Dr. Kevorkian to pursue legalization of suicide
I hope I never have to seriously make a decision concerning myself or anyone else pertaining to this. Aside from Dr Kevorkians aspect of this there's other situations that a person can be called on to decide on such as taking a loved one off life support, etc.

1- I think Dr. Death should have served out his full term.
2- Taking someone who is brain dead off life support is not assisted suicide. It just acknowledging that the person is dead and you are allowing the heart and lungs to stop working.
3- Assisted suicide is not suicide. It's murder. Sucide means taking your own life. Suicide requires no assistance. If you cause the death of another, even with their consent, it's murder. I realize that there are situations where someone is helpless and doesn't wish to continue living, but is not physically capable of suicide. Well, first of all, it's not a perfect world. Secondly, I believe each person'a life has a purpose. Some people, completely helpless because of some disease, have led productive lives and been an inspiration to others. Stephen Hawking is one example.

Good observations. I would add that it is just another case of man wanting to 'play God' by controlling areas that he has no right to do so--essentially being a 'god' unto himself.Life support for someone determined to be brain dead seems to me to be only removing artificial 'life', by the full definition of life. Fulfilling someones request to end their life, which is not artificially supported is always wrong. It is not their decision nor the other's prerogative to do so.

Having been in health care for many years, I havecared for hundreds of terminaly ill patients. I have seen more than enough pain and suffering. I can well understand how patients can want to end it. Some of the media sources are saying some of Kevorkians pt.s were not even terminal. If thats the case he was wrong. I don't think it is wrong for a terminaly ill pt. who is enduring uncontrolled pain or suffering to want to end their life.
