Thou shalt not kill refers to humans, in other words...thou shalt not commit murder.

The Hebrew says "Don't murder." It refers to the crime of murder. Got that from a rabbi fluent in Hebrew, by the way. Doesn't include killing in war or self-defense, etc. Also doesn't include killing critters.

Good question and the 2 replies were good answers. There is a major league difference in a justified killing and the crime of murder. Read in Genesis where the Lord speaks of the animals that He has provided for food--and we can't eat them until they're dead!

Is hunting a sin?
Yes..it certainly can be...but not in th ekilling aspects. Men were killling venison back in the days of Genesis...But the sin I see is in the scriptures.is the staying away from idols.
I think some of us may be real close to idol worship in the way we love to fish and hunt so much..

Some questions that we may need to ask ourselves..

1.When we rise up in the morning..which comes first Bible study and prayer or hunting.net
2, Which do we invest the most time in ,,,,fishing& hunting or ministering to others.
3. Which do we invest the most money in$??

These are some questions I've been pondering lately...
In this sense ..hunting can be a sin.

1 Cor.10:7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Really good point brother. It is not just hunting. ANYTHING we put before God is Idolotry. Does that include staying at home watching a ball game on TV that you want to see? Lets look at the scripture and see what God had to say about it?

3Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

That came from Ex. chap 20

Since he didn't put a clause in there for when FSU or the Dolphins are playing or for the when the bluegill are going on bed......I am sure not about to add it in there or disobey. Nothing wrong with hunting, fishing, enjoying a game or having something nice in life. Always just keep your priorities straight brothers. God first! By him and through him all things are possible.

God bless

I wonder how many of us will be accused of KILLING Time? Just a point to ponder. I know I am guilty.
