If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all, with out finding fault, and it will be given to him.
Commentary[/b]:
"The wisdom God gives is not necessarily information on how to get out of trouble but rather insight on how to learn from one"s difficulties (Prov. 29:15). It is not more information about how to avoid times of testing but instead a new perspective on trials. The wisdom of God begins with a genuine reverence for the Almighty ("the fear of the Lord" in Ps. 111:10; Prov. 9:10) and a steadfast confidence that God controls all circumstances, guiding them to His good purposes (Rom. 8:28).
Also, "Wisdom" here is related to the trials which James has been talking about. You and I have troubles and trials and problems. How are you going to solve this problem? How are you going to meet this issue? How are you going to deal with this person? If you lack wisdom in regard to a problem, you need to go to God in prayer.
We don"t have to face the problems of life in our own wisdom. If, in the time of trial, we lack spiritual insight, we should go to God and tell Him all about our perplexity and ignorance. All who are thus exercised to find God"s purposes in the trials will be liberally rewarded. And they need not worry that God will scold them either; He is pleased when we are teachable and tractable.
We all lack wisdom. The Bible does not give specific answers to the innumerable problems that arise in life. It does not solve problems in so many words, but God"s word does give us general principles. We must apply these principles to problems as they arise day by day. That is why we need wisdom. Spiritual wisdom is the practical application of our Lord"s teachings to everyday situations."
Some of us have doctorate degrees, some of us have masters degree, some of us have a bachelors degree, some of us have an associates degree, and some of us graduated high school, no matter how much knowledge we think have, it will never amount to the infinite wisdom God has. The question I leave you is why wouldn"t you ask God for wisdom, help or guidance? God is a giving God who knows all, for "as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
"Dear heavenly Father, we live in a world that constantly tries to distract us from you and tries to replace eternal wisdom with worldly trivia. Help me please, to remember that even the brightest of minds are foolish, if they lack your wisdom. I pray all these things in your son"s precious name Jesus Christ, Amen."
