Since I am new here I am not sure if this is anything that you have talked about before, but I was just wondering. How do/did you celebrate holidays with your kids? My husband and I don't do santa claus, the easter bunny, and they don't really celebrate halloween either. When we first decided about how we would celebrate these holidays we caught a lot of flack from our family and even some in the church. We talk to our kids about why we don't celebrate the holidays like most people and they don't seem to mind. The kids have stalkings but they know that mom and dad fill them. I tell my kids that Jesus is the reason we should celebrate christmas, and my son said, "Mom if it's Jesus birthday then shouldn't we be buying Him a present?" Our present to Jesus is giving Him all honor and glory. And Easter is the same way. We didn't do it this year but I have a recipe for Resurrection Cookies, and the verses that go with it, that we are going to do with them next year.If you have any other things like this that you have used please pass them along. Oh yeah forhalloween wehave a harvest party at our church and the kids can dress up, farmers and cows and such, they get candy and play games, and glorify God.
I give up for today, I am not up to arguementative posts today, so I'm signing off for the day, maybe tomorrow all will have come to their senses.
I can just picure Satan right now throwing a celebration over this, bragging about how he won this battle. You wanna give him the victory that's your choice I tried saying this in a nice way but it isn't sinking in and I will have no part in it. C-ya later.

My husband and I don't do santa claus, Being a teacher...I only have stuff about Jesus in my folder..no santa stuff.the easter bunny, same deal...I only teach the cross in school.and they don't really celebrate halloween either.I do nothing with my students on Halloween..to me it's a satanic day. When we first decided about how we would celebrate these holidays we caught a lot of flack from our family and even some in the church. Hey Chuck...could you explain why you consider Halloween to be a Satanic celebration? Just curious.
Ought six
Sure..I felt a check in my heart when I wrote that..maybe I messed up...but here goes..I do know that it has it's roots in some holy day..never really studied deep on it but here is why I think it's Satanic
Fear is of Satan..sin is of Satan...I believe there is no gray area ...does Halloween glorify God or Satan.?.The Word says "God has not given us a spirit of fear , but of power and of love and of a sound mind. " The custumes of Freddy Gruger and Jasan,,,the haunted house..Shoot at MGM studios in Orlando, they have people chasing the tourist with chainsaws with no blades of course. The bats and witches..children dressing up as devils...
Does this bring glory to God? Can it possibly open up a door for a kid to get into witch craft down the line? I don't like it...We do have a candy dish for when children come around.in our neighborhood..but not in school..I do not buy the kids any candy , we don't discuss it or color any thing that goes with Halloween. And since many other teachers feel as I do, our principal has opted that we don't celebrate Halloween at our school.
Its all whats in your heart. If your giving glory to God, your good, if your not, your bad. We are sinners saved by the Grace of God.
I commend you for giving glory to God on all holidays. You must have felt convicted by it some ways.
It was a decision that we both had to make and my husband was more convicted of it than I was. But after talking about I decided it was the thing for our kids. We went a bit in the middle and talked to our kids about santa, and the easter bunny, but decided not to because we would have been asking our children to believe in something that isn't real, and because my husband was a problem child when he hit his preteens we decided that if that ever happened to our kids at least Christ would be credible and not just something we chose to keep around so the kids would behave. (That is my perspective) And as far as halloween, there is a lot of Satans fingerprints all over that holiday so we choose to steer clear, the harvest party is done around halloween and not on halloween. My father in-law's birthday is on halloween so we go over there and bring him a birthday treat. The kids don't care because they are having fun anyway.
Before one chooses which side of this issue he/she is going to stand, I suggest a through study on the customs of the world, and there origins. It will take several weeks and is very eye opening. Just one example is found for the origin of the masks worn at Halloween andis said to come from Nero's beheading of the early saints, and then having their heads stuck on poles and paraded through his garden as fun was made of the horible pain seen even in death, upon the faces of the dead saints.
It isn't something that should be taken lightly, or dismissed as simply something to ignore because it may not be popular with some who less concerned, or more liberial in their views.
