Does God make exceptions for the mentally retarded?
Does God make, for better lack of words, an exception for those that are significantly mentally retarted and not able to comprehend and understand scripture, and many cases of right and wrong? I believe that God does not apply sin the same to those not capable of comprehending and understanding, such as those signficantly mentally retarded and younger children as well. What say you? Heaven or hades with them?

Prov.20:10-11
[10] Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.
[11] Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
Pss 51:5-7
[5] Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
[6] Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
[7] Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Deut.1:38-39
[38] But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
[39] Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

I believe that there is an " age of accountability " sort of.
I don't believe it is a specific age, since everyone matures and comprehends differently at different ages. I believe it is more of a ability to comprehend. I also believe that ability extends to evreyone. Thus a slight or possibily greatly deminished capacity to understand or comprehend in people with mental deficits would fall under within the same realm.
Regardless of the cause, people on earth and I also believe in heaven are held to different standards.

I believe we have a loving, just, righteous, and perfect God. I lost a mentally retarded daughter over 30 yrs ago. I think of her as being in heaven with Jesus, whole and healthy. I rest in my trust in God. I don't know how the Lord works these things out, I honestly don't have a Scripture to guarantee me that things are the way I imagine them in this situation, but one can trust.

I appreciate the feedback. I hold the belief that our all-knowing and compassionate Lord will not punish those not able to comprehend and understand as they should.

I would tend to agree. I would love to see Scripture backing up my hope, but alas I do not know of any. God could rightfully destroy all mankind. It would be just to do so. However, God chose to come down here show us his plan and then die to pay for our sins. If he is willing to do that for those of us who knowingly sin...How could he be less compassionate for those who dont know any better? I look at Christ as evidence that mankind is of utmost import to God. There are days when I wonder why. Why would a perfect being give two hoots about scum like us? I trully dont know. What I do know is the fact that the Bible is the most incredible love story ever written. God does love humans. Thus, he must love those who are imperfect mentally.

I don't have any scripture for it either, one thing I can say though. I used to work in a bowling alley that hosted special olympics. These kids who were mentally handicapped, had the biggest hearts I have ever seen. There was these 3 boys that always liked to come and talk to me. They were like 8 year olds in a teenagers body. And then there was Debbie, her dad was kind of the one that pulled it together to have the special olympics there. She was so sweet, and never talked. I went to school with her and I would say hi, she would just smile and keep going. These kids are teased to the core and most, never act like they are. I did finally get her to talk to me and when I did it opened up the flood gates. I was amazed and so was her dad. She hardly ever talked to anyone and now she jibbering away.
I always heard that when you are a child you are covered by your parents faith and one day you need to come out from under your parents wings and stand on your own faith. If the child never reaches that point mentally I would think that the physical wouldn't matter to God
