I have to word this carefully. I belive THE BIBLE is GOD communicating to man. The physical, mechanical "writing" was done by "inspired" men. And I think, the copying and translating ofTHE BIBLE over the years have also been guided by GOD.
On this forum I read a lot of posts that make me think the posters would not tie their shoes without consulting THE BIBLE. People say things like"...the last word is with THE BIBLE.." If it doesn't say something in THE BIBLE they have no use for it.
Do you think that as soon as the ink was dry on THE BIBLE, that GOD stopped communicating with man? Do you believe that GOD has inspired other modern writers to give us lessons on "modern life situations"?
Do you believe that CHRIST has appeared to people and spoken to them, telling them to do things and say things?
I know there are lots of passages warning against "false profits" and evil teachings. Butdoes it say in THE BIBLE "This is it, there is no more."?
man it seem like me and somebody else were just hashing this out the other day, i have wondered about, how modern things are now, and things that were not around during the times that the bible was written, and that all we have is inspired from God, even our thought process, does God still communicate with us, i believe so, but i do a lot of praying daily, to get myself right with God in my train of thought, i use the bible as the ultimate authority. it is pretty much all i can do, i do utilize study guides, but something that has always bugged me in this aspect is that i use the ones i like[&o], and disregard a lot of things i don't believe, but still try to remain open minded[&:]

Robin... I'b buy that, if it weren't for Denominations approving of Homosexuals in the pulpit, or in positions of Authority. no matter how it's translated, the KJV(1st English version) tells me it's wrong, yet these Denoms somehow have "Translated" THAT version into something that says Homosexuality is acceptable lifestyle for the Ministry. thats' why I DON'T believe that these others "are"(as a given)of God... some may well be, and if they are, God will use them. for the record King James WAS a homosexual,or so I was taught, but he wasn't in Authority over the Church...he just had the books translated. God used him to fulfill His purpose, but OUTSIDE His Church. This is what I've been taught, and believe.
oh,yeah... check the warning in Revalations about adding to, or taking away from "this Word"... then ask that question.
It's crazy how satin seems to get his fingers into everthing. If you look at the Bible alone we are to readit and accept it into our heart. Just theBible whatever church or denomination you go to, you yourself have todecide if what they are teaching is right. I believe the Bible the whole Bible. We are a bunch of sinners saved by the grace of God andwe will never agree 100% with each other. In 1Corinthians the apostle Paul writes numerous letters to churches and from his teachings I have learned that God has given us the Bible so that wehave a guideline to follow. We have churches so that we can be in fellowship with one another. We have fellowship with one another for accountability and to help us keep our eyes on Christ. I have a personal relationship with Christ> I read the Bible so I can get to know who he is. I pray to Him and talk to Him. I tell Him about everything big and small. I believe that we are to love the sinner and hate the sin. I'm not saying that this is an easy task but the Bible tells us thatbeing a Christian will never be easy as long as we are here on this earth.
As for we all worship the same God... I don't believe that for one second. I have found that the people who have a tendancy to view God in this manner ussually twist the Bible to fit their needs. This is just my personal opinion from my personal experience. Like I said if you worship the Living God, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, then and only then will you strive to live a life that is Christ like (by Christ like I mean that you will do the best you can to sin as little as possible) we are all sinners and will all fail at times. A personal relationship helps us feel closer to God and through Him is where our comfort comes from.
I'm not one to usually get in debates like this because I am the reason that Christ allready stood on trial &was crucified on the cross. Thank you Jesus! But since I saw that this is an oppurtunity to spread the seed, here I am. The Holy Bible is the Living word of the One true God. It comes as a packaged deal you believe it all or you believe nothing!

On this forum I read a lot of posts that make me think the posters would not tie their shoes without consulting THE BIBLE. People say things like"...the last word is with THE BIBLE.." If it doesn't say something in THE BIBLE they have no use for it. If you are referring to spiritual matters, then any source outside of scripture would be mere speculation. Books written on any subjectwould need to be based on the original. If I read a book about Shakespeare, and it was authored by someone who didn't know him or had ever read anything thing factually based on his life, then why would I give it a second glance? 2Tim 3:16 says that all scripture is inspired by God(literally God breathed)and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training inrighteousness, so tha the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Anyhing written about God should be based on what He has said about Himself, not what some men woul want Him to have said or to be like. It is the standard , and it gives us an objective basis for understanding Him, that alll experiences are to judged by. If anyone claims to have an experience where God 'speaks' to them, and it is inconsistent withthe written word, thne they have a credibility problem right of the bat. 2 Pet 1:16-19 gives us some further clarification about experiences. Here Peter tells us that He saw Christ with His own eyes, touched Him, and was witness to God's audible voice , speaking to the Son on the Mount of Transfiguration. Peter then says something kind of surprising. He then says hat we have a 'more sure word'--the scripture, 'which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a darkplace until teh day dawns and and the morning star arises in your hearts.' He is telling us that scripture is more 'sure' than even the experience he had of witnessing and hearing God's audible voice.
Do you think that as soon as the ink was dry on THE BIBLE, that GOD stopped communicating with man? Do you believe that GOD has inspired other modern writers to give us lessons on "modern life situations"? Inspired as in 'God breathed'--absolutely not. Volumes have been written after the fact, and many are reliabel and accurate, but the only 'measuring stick ' for their accuracy is the standard. All else is man's word about God's word. Does he illuminate our minds and speak to our hearts? Of course. he is a person, and deasl with each of His children on a personal level. But, teh starting point is always the scripture for the reasons I have cited above.
Do you believe that CHRIST has appeared to people and spoken to them, telling them to do things and say things?
Can't say, IMO, that He hasn't or couldn't, but, again, the only credible means of determing any experience woud be to relate it to scripture to see if who or what was speaking to them was truly from God, would be the scripture. A good example is one that I have mentioned before. Paul says in Galatians, that if any man preach, or evenif any angel were to preach any other Gospel than the one that was revealed to Paul, that he should be anathema. Joseph Smith claims that an angel came to him, and did just that, proclaimed 'another gospel', which in Paul's words, is no gospel at all. Did JS actually see this angel(Moroni)? If it wasa real experience, then had he stood on the written revelation in Galatians, he wouldn't have been deceived. He would ahve known that the Gospel was already revealed and that when Christ said, "It is finished!", that He meant it.
I know there are lots of passages warning against "false profits" and evil teachings. Butdoes it say in THE BIBLE "This is it, there is no more."? The final words of the last book of scripture states that if any man adds to or takes away from the words written in this prophecy that God would judge him severely. I honestlybelieve this refers to the book of Revelation specifically, but that it also indicates that this is the fianl revelation, and thatwe have all that God intended to give us that is 'profitable' to us in every matter of our spiritual lives. The warning given of false prophets, and those that 'twist' th written word 'to their owndestruction' also implies thatthe wirtten word, as we have it is a done deal. Paul also, in sayingthat the Gospel has been revelaed and tha there is no 'other gospel' indicates that there is no need for any further 'revelation'.
