Quite some time ago, someone told me that a well-known and trusted evangelist had stated that you cannot be held accountable for your dreams.
With some of the more bizarre dreams we sometimes have when things that would not normally happen DO happen, that's not hard to believe.
However, when you have a more "normal" dream when things go pretty much the same as they likely would have had you been awake . . . are you guilty of sinning if you give into a temptation in the dream?
In all actuality, you did NOT commit the sin phycially, but Jesus said you are guilty of sinning in some cases without acting i.e.- lusting after women, etc. And, had this been real life, you WOULD have acted.
So, what say ye?

No Dave,
I do not thnk we are accountable for our dreams..at least I hope not.I've had some dillies myself. A couple I woke up thinking..I hope this was a dream. ..I know my wife would have killed me.if it really happened.
i too don't think u can be held accountable for dreams. you really have no control over what goes on in your head while you are sleeping. but i know i have dreams about things that are on my mind, not even sinful things, but is it possible that if i'm thinking about lustful thoughts when im awake that i will dream about them too? then there might be a problem.

You only Dream what you have experienced or done. If you have dreams that are sinful is because you have experienced it before and those thoughts are in your mind.

I have to disagree, I dream about fighting demons, and gunfights, and flying, all kinds of wild stuff. I can't say I have done any of that.

It's because you have seen it on TV or Moviesand those things are in your subconscious mind and comes out in your dreams.

I don't have any bais for this , other than , I think, common sense. As Reb has said, our dreams seem to be an extension of our thoughts and the things that we are exposed to consciously, and maybe even subconsciously. TV, things that we dwell on,fears, anxieties, people we encounter casually or otherwise, and on and on. How all of this input comes out in a state of sleep, where we' have our guard down' so to speak, is probably multifaceted. I think some of it is certinly attributable to our sinful thoughts and attitudes coming out where we would do certain things if we had the oppurtunity, and IMO, be something of concern, that we may need to take into consideration as to why we would have had such a dream, and in that case need to ask God to purify our minds. Others are just the result of what we ate and probably chemical reactions. Like BC said, some dreams are sort of like watching the SCI-FI channel! I have no idea where some of these 'adventures' came from! Our minds store so much info that our subconscuious mind releases some pretty nonsensical chains of events!
