Default Yoga

I have started to do yoga as a means of reducing stress and anxiety. Most people I talk to have no problem with it but a couple have said "Isn't that Hindu worship?" I never have felt I have worshiped anything in class nor would I ever. I eat Chinese,Indian, etc food that is made by Hindu's, so what could possibly be the problem with practicing a form of their exercise and relaxation?

Look, Jews rock when they pray. Does that mean if you start rocking (for whatever reason) you are now Jewish?

Many secular activities can be traced back to a religion. What you do with a secular activity may or may not be sinful or unpleasing to God. I think it's pretty short sighted to assume that practicing Yoga, as exercise, is somehow worshipping a different religion.

^What he said, X2

Nearly activity can be traced back to questionable roots.

If I won't eat a crow......it's not becuase the Native Americans considered them Gods/Spirits.

Lots of people do yoga. I never saw any connection to any religious practice at all. Some people in India might I guess, but not around here.

remember ..we are all different so please don't hate me...but it's kind of like the meat offered to idols situation..if you can do it in good faith..do it. But please except us who can't. I've seen it done a few places..

Nowlet's play school..

Why not...Chuck7...because I heard the instructors leading the people into meditation type stuff. I knew their lifestyle and it wasn't Christ they were meditaing on..So in good faith..I can't do it...but I don't judge you if you do. ..fair ??

I think you found the area where it could become questionable. A person can get videos and such that don't include any kind of meditation, they just show how to stretch out which I think is fine.

i personally see nothing wrong with it. but like Chuck said some ppl do and that's fine. yoga has some eastern meditative roots and stuff but to me as long as u use it for excercise only it's fine. i've heard ppl say the same thing about karate. halloween is another example.

Amen...the same can be said about martial arts. To be honest we did yoga stretches while in the military before our morning runs sometimes...but without any meditation exercises.

If it's purely exercise you're after . . . and this exercise is one you like and would use . . . and you DO NOT allow any of the "spiritual experiences" that are often accompany yoga to inflitrate you . . . then go for it!

As for exercise (and ONLY that), it's OK. However, it's derived from the eastern religions that are so common today in the new age movement. If you enjoy it, just be careful.
