Default Funeral "service"

On Saturday I attended a "funeral service" for a "distan relative" of my wifes. I have been to several funerals before and they were always for Christians and had a similar and "posative" theme. Not this one. There was not one mention of GOD, heaven, life after death, salvation. There were no prayers or hyms. Just a lot of talk of what a good man and loving father and husband and friend he had been.

Afterwords I said to some of my wifes relatives what a sad and for me depressing "service' it had been. They were surprised and said they had thought it a wonderful service. When I told them I found it very sad because there was no mention of GOD or salvation, they said "OH well that is what he had wanted and if that is what someone wants then you have to respect that after they die" And that is why I was so sad and depressed over it. If he had not wanted prayer and talk of his eternal life after with GOD, then perhaps he was not going to have it.

Then on Sunday when I was at Mass, and the priest was talking about the resurection of Christ and our salvation, it made me glad that I was a Christian and that my funeral was going to be a celabration of the end of one life and the beginning of a new and eternal life. I think I will write my own eulogy so those in attendence will know how I feel about my life on earth and my anticipation of a new life in heaven.

Default RE: Funeral "service"

You know, I can understand your sadness. At some funerals, you might know a person and know he never accepted Christ, but you always have some hope for the person, even though its most doubtful. You might hope they accepted in the last seconds, or who knows.

But for a funeral like this, you know, where the guy ended up. And that is sad.

There was a radio show in the baltimore area called KML. Well the L in it, Lopez was a professed athiest. They said he was until his death with cancer. But the other two DJ's always mention him being in Heaven, afterwards. I hate to tell them, unless they had a personal relationship with Christ, he's not in Heaven.
