Default Prayer before meals

Do you remember to thank the Lord for providing your food and ask Him to bless it before EVERY meal . . . including at work and in other public places?

And, when you DO pray, is it heartfelt and meaningful, or just something mechanical and rushed through?

pretty much always. i usually just say a quick one in my head thanking God for the food etc. i kinda get annoyed when ppl preach a sermon during a prayer and sometimes even forget to thank God for the food.

I live in northern Illinois and i go to a private catholic school (im Christian) but nobody prays before meals like we should. In classes we pray alot but mostly because the teachers lead us in the prayers.

I pray before meals, and I live a life of gratitude to the Lord for all the blessings He has laid on me. When I sit down to eat, I take a moment to still myself to thank the Lord, I don't get all longwinded and I usually pray the same short prayer of thankfulness and get on with the business at hand. I'm not big on praying out loud as I find myself not centered on God when I do.

When we're eatting together as a family, one of us (usually me) will lead the prayer thanking God for His provision and asking for His blessing on the food. In a restaurant, I always lead the prayer and it's short and to the point, but never skipped. At work, I bow my head and pray silently before eatting. It's not done to get attention - in fact, I try to be indiscreet and unnoticed doing this since only one other co-worker prays before meals. My prayers are usually basically the same before meals, but I try to make them heartfelt and sincere.

dave thanks for bringing this up, several years ago i was working with a guy also named david, he found outi liked to fish and well he kinda invited himself to go once, when we got back to work this guy would brag and brag about my fishing skills (i still claim luck) he would be telling all the guys keith did this and keith did that, sometimes he would blow it a little out of perportion calling 4# fish 6 pounders, but we always had a good time, but we also never talked much about God, but one day out on the water i had fixed us some sandwiches, when i handed him his and a drink he promptly bowed his head, i asked if he was alright before i realized what he was doing, well then we started going to lunch together at work, and i noticed this guy always said grace before he ate, i'm not sure when it hit me but i really realized how positive of an influence he was making on me and that i needed to turn things around in my life, boy now that i think about it he was really a sucker, i taught him how to find and fish offshore structure and he gave me new direction in life. hope he never gets into the used car business..

i still talk to david fairly regular, but because of job situations we have not shared the water together in quite some time, but we still call each other every now and then and are still good friends, even if he did fish one of my spots dry the day before one of my tournamnets and even called to tell me how mannny he caught[:@]

but anyway back to the importance of praying and thanking God for it all, i know none of us do it for show, but you never really realize what kind of impact you'll have on someone elses life

thank you David, and thank God for our paths crossing
