Here is siome valuable information I found yesterday and I want to hand it down to you.
For you guys who study your hunting trips on Google .Th enext time you pull up your favorite hunting spot.
A. click on tools. B. then click on measure.
MAN!!! That is some awesome tool. You can measure up to the 100th of a mile from any point. So now I no longer estimate how far my stand is off the road. I'm already scouting my next years archery hunt 440 miles away.
If you guys are not using Goggle Earth you are missing out. If you need the link to Google Earth let me know and Iwill post the link. i'm presuming you are all using it.
Also, you can save your map pictures and edit them..When you edit you and make them very nice by contrasting them and using different colors.. I then print them on photo paper. I have all my tough area fishing holes and my Green Swamp hunting areas.I 'm sure there are other neat things I will explore about Google Earth. The program is free but we wpent the extra 20.00 for more clear details.
I really do love the measuring device. I know exactly how far one road is from another...and how far I have to walk to come to a creek bed etc.
COOL......I have never used google earth. I just downloaded the free version, but under the tools menu, there is no measure option for me. Do I have to purchase on of the "better" versions before I can get this option or what? Anyway, thanks for mentioning about this site.
PS: How up to date are these maps?

I'm no computer whizz. My wife says we have the free version and the old version..I'm surprized you can't get th emileage Here are some other things I like about it...
!. I can post a tree or some other marking device and it will always stay..So I have my faovorite hunting and fishing places marked so I can find them instantly.
2. I can click either schools restaurants etc. and it will highlight everyone of those in the area.
3. I can find every hunting trail and with the mileage know how far I needto walk to a certain funnel or creek etc. I LOVE THIS TOOL.
God bless.
When I visited Strut I located his farm on Google Earth..that made it easier to find short cuts to his house.
Alan,
I was fooling around with my free version of Google Earth on the tool bar. on top of the page.I saw { Update Google Earth to the 4.0 version}took about 90 seconds.I followed the directions
WOW!!! Now I can see the dotted lines on the road and the boat trailors at the boat ramps. If you can update ...by all means update. The updated version has a litle ruler icon to access the distance easier..
i wasn't impressed when i tried google earth. it would not show the area's i hunt, atleast the free version. it only seemed to show area's near major cities or points of interest. i use to use Terra Server's free mapping. only thing i didn't like about it was it not letting you zoom in real close.

You are correct Camo...there are some areas that are blurry or blocked by clouds..However; I've been lucky..all of mine have come in great. I'm not going to show all my hunting spots but here is one from the Green Swamp...to show you how nice it is.
Sorry...I tried to compress it but I couldn't get it loaded.Probably just as good as it wouldn't be wise to advertize my spots.Anyway..I have many maps of the Green Swamp that is very helpful and clearly shows each bayhead and funnels. Now, the more concentrated spots by the river are just heavy green blotches and that is not very helpful. Everything around Powder ,Three Mile Run and Ellis is great on the map.
God bless,

Is google earth maps up to date? I have used yahoo maps, terra server free maps and a few others and they are all "old" maps. I would guess some are up to 5 years old. That really doesn't help when looking at hunting areas where timbers have been logged out or looking in the marsh streams for san bars.
If google earth is not up to date like within 1 year, is there a place you can get up to date maps? Also, C7, I notice when I went to google earth that the closer I zoomed in, the focus was real bad. Am I doing something wrong b/c your pic you provided is much clearer than what I could get? Remember, sometimes the operators are the biggest problems....LOL.....and with it, I usually help that trend.

Some areas are like that Alan...my wife and i tried looking at a place in New York..it was very blury. But I've been scouting an area by Google in northern Florida..my oh my it's awesome..I'm seeing cars on the roads, roof top colors , boat trailors etc. so it all depends where you are at. I'm horrible on the computer..comparedto my wife and yet I uploaded the new version which is a 4.0 very nice. ..in about 90 seconds. It was free.
You are correct about not being updated. The picture of my home is a suburban in the front yard and a hedge..Well, I sold the Suburban 3 years ago and the hedge has already grown and been cut down and replaced by hybiscus plants..So yeah...we are a few years behind. Generally though creeks and swamps don't change that much .
God bless ,c7
