This interested me after learning a couple of posters here particiapte in Excorcisms. How do you know when the demons aren't just a mental illnesss and do the folks that perform excorcisms have any training in the mental health field?Crucified nun dies in 'exorcism' A Romanian nun has died after being bound to a cross, gagged and left alone for three days in a cold room in a convent, Romanian police have said.
Members of the convent in north-east Romania claim Maricica Irina Cornici was possessed and that the crucifixion had been part of an exorcism ritual.
Cornici was found dead on the cross on Wednesday after fellow nuns called an ambulance, according to police.
A priest and four nuns were charged with imprisonment leading to death. Orphan
Police say the 23-year-old nun, who was denied food and drink throughout her ordeal, had been tied and chained to the cross and a towel pushed into her mouth to smother any sounds.
A post-mortem is to be carried out, although initial reports say that Cornici died from asphyxiation.

I don't understand why journalists are making such a fuss about this

Local media reports that the young woman had arrived at the remote convent three months before, having initially gone there to visit a friend and opted to stay.
She grew up in an orphanage in Arad, in the west of Romania.
Mediafax news agency said Cornici suffered from schizophrenia and the symptoms of her condition caused the priest at the convent and other nuns to believe she was possessed by the devil.
"They all said she was possessed and they were trying to cast out the evil spirits," police spokeswoman Michaela Straub said.
Father Daniel who is accused of orchestrating the crime is said to be unrepentant.
"God has performed a miracle for her, finally Irina is delivered from evil," AFP quoted the priest as saying.
"I don't understand why journalists are making such a fuss about this. Exorcism is a common practice in the heart of the Romanian Orthodox church and my methods are not at all unknown to other priests," Father Daniel added.
If found guilty of killing Cornici, Father Daniel and the accused nuns could face 20 years in jail.

Charlie,, I've been around some types of exorcisms and have been involved as well. They are actually very simple at least the ones I've been involved in. They are more serous ones in Africa or like they type Jesus dealt with but. example..witch doctors etc...Jesus said "These come not out except by prayer and fasting." So there are different degrees of serousness.
The ones I've seenis where a person was bound by a habit that was destroying thier life. Anyone who is a child of God and Walking in the Spirit can do one..It's simply speaking in authority to the stronghold / demon that is troubling that person...in Jesus name.It get's hairy sometimes. I was dealing with an individual once and when I was getting ready to give up and walk away I felt led as David did to Saul..worship God on my guitar softly, quietly and reverently. The demon left and the person was filled with the Holy Ghost as they beganto sing in tongues. I was amazed of how God worked in that situatioin. It is very real.

I have never been around an exorcism and nor do I want to ever be. Talk about spiritual warfare. I would think that those who attend or participate in an exorcism should be very very strong in the Lord. I would like to say I am, but I don't want to face that. May God give you guys who are involved with these things HIS supernatural strength. WOW, I can only imagine dealing directly with evil. Funny thing is when I was growing up as a teenager, I never had a desire to see scary movies and to go to a real exorcism for me would be very difficult. However, I believe God has certain people to deal with these things and I am glad He didn't ask me..LOL.

The story sound fisticious, even the catholics have rules about exorcisms.

Alan...the Bible group I was in in Georgia dealt with this alot. I saw soldiers come in to our Bible study and after Mr. and Mrs. Wesley prayed with them they had to be helped back to their car. ..and their life was changed.
Mine happened like this. I was out eatting crabs in Maryland. I was a new Christian. I felt a very strong urge to share my crab meat with a certain person. I was doubting it was God. {I wanted all the crab meat.}I continued getting the urge. I drove to the home. The person was on the floor screaming for God to change their life. I ignored them..and then ...pity came in my heart. I did not have the words for I was a new Christian.I simply began praying for them. I felt something very ugly in the room. with us...Fear was all over the place. I began rebuking Satan in Jesus name...I felt helpless. I called on Jesus. After about 10 minutes I began to grow weary. I got out my guitar and began playing Seek Ye First The Kingdom of God. PEACE filled the kitchen,,,the person had a glow on their faceand began singing in tongues. It was their first time.I was amazed. That was my only personal expereince with such things. I've dealt with demons alot in jail as a chaplain but hardly anyone desires ot be free from them.

To deal with the big guns your probably right..but mostly the things of God are simply stepping out in faith...willing to become "a fool for Christ sake."

WOW, that is amazing to say the least. I guess I sometimes under estimate God's power. After all, He did create the entire universe and everything that has ever existed. Thanks for sharing.

Alan,
I'll be straight with ya. A lot of folks triedto talk me out of going to Bible college. I certainly can see why. I had much more faith before I went and learned about "What God couldn't do."
What hinders faith..
habitual sin
lack of Bible reading
False teaching
por prayer life
unforgiveness
bitterness
afraidto fail
malice
What sparks faith
God..faith comes from God.
Bible reading
habit of obeying in the little things {like sharing your crab meat }
prayer
constant mercy and forgiveness
willingness to mess up
love
