It just seems like there is something big looming on the horizon and people are expecting it, even nonbelievers.The bible also says he will come in an hour when no one expects his return.

You mean the gathering ? The Rapture doesn't exist in the bible.
The Coming of Christ after the tribulation ,Matthew 24 and the resurrection of the dead Thess. Chpt 4.are one event.





2 and shalt return unto the LORD thy God, and hearken to His voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul;

גוְש�ָב יְהוָה �ֱלֹהֶיךָ �ֶת-ש�ְבוּתְךָ, וְרִחֲמֶךָ; וְש�ָב, וְקִבֶּצְךָ מִכָּל-הָעַמִּי�, �ֲש�ֶר הֱפִיצְךָ יְהוָה �ֱלֹהֶיךָ, ש�ָמָּה.
3 that then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the peoples, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee.

4 If any of thine that are dispersed be in the uttermost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will He fetch thee.

הוֶהֱבִי�ֲךָ יְהוָה �ֱלֹהֶיךָ, �ֶל-הָ�ָרֶץ �ֲש�ֶר-יָרְש�וּ �ֲבֹתֶיךָ--וִירִש�ְתָּהּ; וְהֵיטִבְךָ וְהִרְבְּךָ, מֵ�ֲבֹתֶיךָ.
5 And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and He will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.

ווּמָל יְהוָה ×�ֱלֹהֶיךָ ×�ֶת-לְבָבְךָ, וְ×�ֶת-לְבַב זַרְעֶךָ: לְ×�ַהֲבָה ×�ֶת-יְהוָה ×�ֱלֹהֶיךָ, בְּכָל-לְבָבְךָ וּבְכָל-×*ַפְש×�ְךָ--לְמַעַן חַיֶּיךָ.

6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.
This is the gathering as promised to Israel and concurs with Matt 24 and thess 4.
Now if Your A christian sojourned( Grafted in)to Israel you will also be gathered whether dead or alive.
