Is it wrong in Gods eyes to download music? I am sure many of us do it. Once I download a song I dont share it or sell it to anyone. There are so many songs I like I dont want to buy alot of CD's. Its not like I am stealing it from the person that has it. Its shared all over the internet.

We useNapster in our house. You pay for the songs you download. I think in most states downloading copyrighted musicfrom shared sitesis considered stealing from the artists......so what do you think?

I've had pastors tell me it's stealing to copy/download ANY music(especially Christian) w/o paying. I can see the point of that statement, but don't agree...ESPECIALLY when it comes to Christian/Worship music. why? noone can show me(Bible) where we're to CHARGE for Gods' music...where we're to have $$ associated with Praise/Worship music.... where it says that music is for-profit in ANY genre... lets' not mistake what the WORLD does when it comes to profitizing secular music, for what God expects us to do with HIS music. I remember reading "freely it was given, so freely give"....Matthew, I believe...
as for making a living(Christian musicians)..my Word says God will provide... obviously many think that means Promoters and contracts..I think differently. God neverresorts tomans' Laws...NEVER...He only told us to be obedient to those that weren't in direct opposition to HIS laws.
...and the Dove Awards.... they are blasphemous, IMHO....
as a musician myself I have cd`s for sale at our shows,if I was that saught after that people would go to the internet to download a song the odds are I have enough money to pay the bills, buy new guitars, maybe even the latest bow, like the man said God will provide my needs,He always does, and if it`s legal than it`s not wrong in my opinion

Giving is an admirable quality and of course you have the right to give away whatever you want. We should keep in mind, however, that it is up to the "giver" to give. Taking something from someone who hasn't given you permission to take it is theft and clearly breaks a commandment.
I think the only thing that makes this issue slightly less obvious as stealing is that electronic music is not property in the traditional sense. What's important is not the CD but rather the information on the CD. Kind of like a book. What does the author own? The paper and glue and ink each book is made with? Actually we as a society have decided that the property the author actually owns is the story itself. The physical book is simply a means of communicating it. There are of course other examples of non physical property that people can own. Computer software, slogans, trademarks, entertainment concepts etc. all are examples of things people can own and therefore sell, rent, trade or give away. The device(s) used to accomplish the transaction are basically irrelevant. How an individual aquires or uses another person's property is not. When you take something that somebody else owns and without their permission, you are clearly stealing and breaking a commandment.
The musicaian who creates the music, owns the music and taking something from somebody without their consent is theft. Pretty simple really. We can attempt to justify and rationalize all we want, but if we are honest with ourselves, it's pretty easy to understand what stealing is.
Also,
Leaving the legistics aside. Fred, IMHO music is one of Satan's biggest , suddle tools. Today as the end is approaching Satan has snares everywhere. Ever since I was 2 I loved music. I was playing a broom at 4.Being heavily involved in the 70s scene my flesh loves Skynard, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk and all the above. My flesh loves the solos played by Randy Rhodes of Ozzie ...etc.
These my dear brother are all poison to the soul. The says "As a man thinketh so he is." This stuff is the philosophy of the Word and neat little solos .I always wished I could have seen them all live and I wished I could have learned their music. WELL, guess what ? Now I can. I can download their old video clips and copy their music. Temptation ?? you bet ..one of my biggest. Of course God is using it to expose the real me. I'm seein gmore and more how deceitful my flesh man is and how I need to daily submit myself to His lordship. Teh scripture says "We are no longer ourselves." "We were bought and paid for by his blood." The Bible says the believer's songs should be "Psalms , hymns, and spiritual songs."
Today is very tough for the Christian..With free credit cards you can covet all day long. With free porn and live web cams you can have a ll the mental sex you want. And with free music you can listen ot satanic music all day and no one will know ...well almost no one.But really, none of these are free.We play now and pay later.Your faith is getting more weaker everyday until it is totally ship wrecked. These are the things we got delivered from as gentiles. Let us not go back to the vomit like a pig.
Obedience starts in the small things. Before the day even starts pray..
Heavenly Father , take away the love of the world from my heart. Help me to love your ways more than the world. Help me to see sin as you see sin.
Help meto see my real need for you. Open my eyes ot the needs around me and deliver me from my own self. Give me an obedient heart oh Lord. Teach me your ways. Wash me clean by your blood. In Jesus name Amen
Stealing is stealing, and most everybody does it in one form or the other. Some fudge on the hours worked, while most people are guilty when it comes to taxes.. it's still taking something that does not belong to us..
The musicaian who creates the music, owns the music
I disagree... music is NOT of man, but a tool for worshipping/praising God. PERIOD... it was NOT given for secular use, nor is it MANS' to own. Sorry if this ruffles any feathers...but THAT'S plainly explained in the Word. How can Christians defend human law, knowing this......
edit to add: ..nor was it given for MAN to receive GLORY from it..think Dove Awards
should we not burn a copy for a friend?should we pay someone to be able to sing cirtain songs in church? I think matt redmon and lincoln brewster and countless others have plenty of money and God more than provides thier needs. If you want to go buy a cd than do so,I do all the time,in fact I have never in my life downloaded a song and copied it to cd,or burned one of mine for a friend, but I know many christians who do and I cant immagine calling it stealing, it`s leagal.I guarranty many of these artists are doing it,and many worship leaders are bringing all this STOLEN music to church
