Default Maybe you folks should consider...

that there a people who aren't necessarily able to take the often contradictory statments in the Bible as authoritative, but are looking for guidance from it even so. It seems as though you're saying, here it is, take it literally or get lost. Is that really the way you feel? Take it literally or spend eternity in torment?

In other words, you seek answers from men/women. But we don't have answers. Seek, trust, have faith and the Holy Spirit will guide you. Thats easier said than done and struggel every day to listen to the Holy Spirit.

Some of the Bible isn't meant to be taken literally...

However, every bit of it is the Word of God.

Believing the latter doesn't necessarily mean you have to believe the former or vice versa.

Have you ever thought about what the word 'truth' actually means? Is it something subjective,or merely according to our own perspective personally , or is it objective, meaning that it is based on something outside of our personal perspective? Does it change? Is it relevant or relative? If you were accused of a crime that you didn't commit, would you want an attorney that is committed to finding and establishing the truth, the facts, or one that thinks that those don't matter? Truth is that which corresponds with reality. There was a real event that took place that got us where we are--the world and all that is in it--what is the truth about these events? Where does that leave you and how are you affected by these events? Do you think that we were left here without some sort of guide that is factual, true and reliable? I can assure you that we have not. There is only one truth about any event, not several based on our own viewpoint. Truth is absolute in its very nature and no amount of altering or attempting to do so, of the reality of any situation can or will change the truth--only ones perception of it.
One other question, just where do you find these 'contradictions' that you have cited? Give me 3 actual examples that you can think of.

The Bible says what it says. People can twist it into anything they want to believe ........ but only through study can you figure it out yourself.

You said " Take it literally or spend eternity in torment? " ........ does the Bible say you're going to spend an eternity in torment ?

Here is something that no preacher will tell you - the Bible warns of those who speak in the name of God but have no ties to God. They say they are Godly, but are anything BUT Godly. Watch for those people. Only through ible study and prayer and fellowship with others who believe as strongly as you do will you be able to forge a true belief in what the Bible is, who Jesus is and what it all means.

John Hagee on Sunday morning will not give you that.
The $50,000,000 church down the road won't give you that.
Sending money to an evangelist won't give you that.
Listening to others without Bible study won't get you that.

I'm pretty sure there's a passage that says "he that believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he that doesn't believe shall be damned." (I'm assuming the reference to "he" includes females.)

And I'm pretty sure the state of being "damned" is explained in other places as meaning eternal damnation. Or am I wrong?
