Checking In

Hey folks, Hav'nt been posting much lately. Deer season is winding down pretty much for me tho. All we have left is primitive weapons. My main hunting area has pretty much been taken over by bulldozers and backhoes[:@]. Katrina cleanup right in the middle of the rut. I hav'nt seen a shootable buck this yr.
Oh well, I have taken 5 does for the freezer and read the New Testament again. I think I'm going to call it a yr and maybe just bow hunt here at the house a little bit.

Sounds like you've had a productive year, even if "muy grande" managed to elude you!

You're situation sounds a LOT like mine. I haven't been posting much lately either - mostly just reading and not responding. However, I haven't been out hunting much lately due to bad weather and a horrible cold that lasted for 4 weeks. My main hunting are here at home has also been changed a bit over the last month as my neighbor decided to fence in his entire property so that his horses and cattle can graze there. It turns out that his property line runs a little deeper in what was all MY woods than I had thought. His fences (electric) cut off many of the main deer trails I hunt over and with all the people working and heavy equipment, the deer have moved for now to other places. Hopefully, I'll be able to entice them back here next year - looks like I might try some food plots again.

I am going out today with another member on here and I'll give it another shot at the end of the week, and then I'm done too.

I wonder just how many bucks were actually killed by the hurricane! 5 does isn't bad at all. Keep hunting around them and the bucks will eventually come calling with flowers and candy! I have one more trip to Bama planned for this weekend. I haven't taken but one cull buck, and 3 does woith my bow. I did pass up several small ones during bow season and early on in the gun, but all in all, the poaching problem has dampened my season. Maybe I'll get one right at the wire!
