Say we kill someone and we get away with it. Besides possibly going to hell for it. Could he punish us here on earth by making us lose a loves one, lose a job, etc.

6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
I think we need to focus on discipline more than punishment. It hinges on wether one is a child of God or not.
Proverbs 3:11:
11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline
and do not resent his rebuke,
Jeremiah 30:11
11 I am with you and will save you,'
declares the LORD.
'Though I completely destroy all the nations
among which I scatter you,
I will not completely destroy you.
I will discipline you but only with justice;
I will not let you go entirely unpunished.'
Hebrews 12:5-11
5And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons:
"My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
6because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."[a]
7Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

In Christ alone I place my trust.
Christians aren't perfect, just sinners saved by grace.
Love to fish, hunt, ride atv's, music at church, football, family and friends.
Perhaps this is a play on words is punishment much different than chastisement? Probably the singular most important fact is which is a direct result of disobedience? First of all as a Christian thou shalt not kill (it's listed in the big ones), so if a Christian does kill and does not seek repentance and forgivness for that God says he will chasten those whom he loves. If you are not a Christian then this does not apply to you.
With that said, it does not mean that God isn't in control of all things. He is. There is nothing that goes on in all of our lives that he doesn't know and care about.
If I start sinning alot, and moving away from the Lord, if we are lucky, i mean very fortunate, he will dicipline us. I know he has diciplined me a few times, and in retrospec, I am so thankful. I am child of his that feel like I know better when in reality, I don't know jack.
You know when you got to start worrying, when you have no conviction, no dicipline.
In Chronicles, God said he would not kill a family member over sins of one person. Now we are not under the law, but the Old Test gives us a glimpse of God and helps us to understand him better I believe.
2 Chronicles 25:4
Yet he did not put their sons to death, but acted in accordance with what is written in the Law, in the Book of Moses, where the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their fathers; each is to die for his own sins."
I believe the Lord Chastises you, which is a form of punishment. He grinds youto make you FINE.
What do we do to Wheat to make FineFlour?.....We grind it! What do we do to Sugar to make FinePowder Sugar...We grind it! What do we do the Coffee Beans to make Fine Coffee...We grind it! What do we do to Corn to make Fine Corn Meal...We grind it!
In order to make something Fineyou have to Grind It!
By Chastizing you the Lord is making you Finer!
