"How is fearing God a positive thing?? I don't fear death like many. God's love was shown when he gave us life. Do you see gods love in the here and now -on this earth or reasons to fear god?
Or do you moslty feel the way you do from reading the bible' his words?"
Just trying to understand - how & why ppl feel& believe the way they do & how they come to believe as they do.?
Sometimes it seems it would be easyier if i was a athiest.
But inspired by those around meit seems to inpire me to seek out more.

This is a good subject to use your Strongs Dictionary. I hav'nt taken the time to prove it out but there are different words in the original texts that translate out to a common word "fear".
Basically "to fear God" is to have reverance for God rather than to be frightened of Him.

"How is fearing God a positive thing?? For me sir...I've always feared God. Teh Bible says that he teaches all His children to love. ..so the love part came after I was a Christian. I was taught at an early age by my parents that if I wasn't good I would burn in Hell. Jesus says something similiar. "Don't fear him who can kill the body but rather fear Him who can put boith body and soul into Hell. So yeah..in Psalm 19 the Word says "The fear of the Lord is clean..enduring forever. In Amazing Grace I think the writer pegged it quite well. " Grace has taught my heart to fear and by grace my fears believed..how precious did that grace appear..the hour I first beleived. Fear of 220 keeps our butts from getting fried from respecting the fuse box. Fear of God keeps us from Hell. To me that is a positive thing. I don't fear death like many. That's hard to beleive sir but to be honest with ya..to see how many people drive out there I'd say there are many more that don't fear dying. I see fellows doing over 100MPH all the time on those motorcycles. God's love was shown when he gave us life. Do you see gods love in the here and now -on this earth or reasons to fear god? Yes sir. I actually saw it today. I was overwhelmed at a staff meeting,The principal put more on me today and I snapped. I said "And what happpens if I don't meet your deadline ? Because sir I plan to leave all of my books right here at 3:30 and leave as usual.I don't take my work home." God used this sweet lady to say."Mr. Borden ...I can help you with that project. I'm very comfortable doing spread sheets. I thanksed her.And in my heart sir..the Lord peacefully told me to be still..and I did. I think being still probably saved my butt from getting in trouble. I was so upset I was tempted to get a few beers.on the way home.Instead ,I quietly listened as the Lord continued to tell me to be still ..and He calmed my inner storm...instead I bought a gallon of grapefruit juice,Or do you moslty feel the way you do from reading the bible' his words?" Both ...the love thing my friend grows. Our love for Him and others is a progressive thing.

i believe the fear referred to here is more reverance for God like Leaf. said or maybe respect would be another good word

to me i would fear the penalty for not livinga good decent life,
such as going to hell,
those that live life full of evil and hate should have something to fear

Amen...I think about those holy men and women in the Bible who met God or an angel. most were instructed to fear not...such as Mary.
Such as any priest who wore a long cord on himself in case He died in the Holy of Holies. Advice from Solomon. Proverbs14.16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
Advice from Jesus the Christ
Matthew 10 :28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
