Default Repenting of earrrings ???Gen.35 1:6

This chapter follows the chapter in which the son's of Jacob/ Israel killed a bunch of men for raping their sister Dinah. Jacob said."Now you have made our name to stink in the region." So God told Jacob to move to the area where Jacob had hid from Esau . ..Bethel.

Genesis 35
1And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
2Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
3And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
4And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
5And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
6So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

I thought that was very interesting. As our days are getting closer to the end it seems many more folks are wearing earrings..in thier eye lids, noses ..etc.etc. even the men are wearing them. I wonder why Jacob made the folks rid themselves of their earrrings? I wonder where they got their idols. In a few chapters back Rachel stold Laban's idol.

My simple and uneducated guess would be that the earrings/peircings had some type of symbolism in their idol worship. Besides, I think peircing are forbidden under the Jewish law.

Another thing, somewhere else in the Bible (I believe while Moses was recieving the Ten Commandments) they used there golden jewelry to make the golden calf. Perhaps that was a norm of the time and he wanted to prevent the casting of future idols?

Of course in my opinion jewelry is not acceptable as a thing that I would allow myself nor would I accept my wife wearing it.

For this reason:

1Pe 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
1Pe 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1Ti 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

But then again:

Rom 14:22 Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.
