Im confused

ok, I got a reeeeeeaaally dumb question that I just cant figure out. In my years of going to church I must have missed something but maybe I just never differentiated the two. ok here is my dumb question.

What is the difference between Mary (as in Mary and Joseph) and Mary Magdeline? And who is this third Mary (Jesus' sister ???) they talk about??

Not a dumb question at all Mossy. There are several Mary's mentioned in the Bible and I get them confused also. Of course we have Mary the mother of the humanity of Christ. . .not to be confused with Mary Magdalene who had been a prostitute but started following Christ and was the first Christ appeared to after the Resurrection.Then Lazerus had a sister named Mary. I think James mother was called Mary of Cleopas.Then I think Romans chapter 16 speaks of yet another Mary. Theres more . . .I think Barnabas's sister was a Mary also. Maybe even a couple in the Old Testament. It seems like Mary was a pretty popular name in the day.

so is it true she (Mary Magdeline)was the "apostle of the apostles?" I am having a hard time understanding what her place in the ranks so to speak was.

You've got me there . .I've heard that phrase before but I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that. I view Mary Magdalene as a woman that had been forgiven much and in turn had a deep devotion to Christ.

Your Right Mariame the Magdaline was a possesed by demons that Christ cleansed, she was not a prostitute at all.
She was not an apostle and had no rank, but neither of the apostles had ranks.
She was a follower of Christ, just like the other Approx 500 women who followed Him and cared for Him.

Whoa, uh? Okay, so there's a fluke in the translations that Mary Magdaline was possessed, not a prostitute....but where does the 500 women that followed Him come from?

Don't mean for this to have a challenging tone at all, I'm just curious! Both are news to me!

Sorry fellas. There is absolutely nothing in the Bible that suggests that Mary Magdaline was a prostitute. The very first reference to her being one was in the 13 or 1500's by Pope Clementine I think. I could be wrong about the particulars, but it was never in the bible.
