Default Gods Will

I have read some quotes about people praying for Gods Will to be done. Such as praying and asking "God if it be your Will, heal my mother from cancer". I have a hard time even listening to people pray that way or even speaking that way. I don't mean to step on toes or upset people but when I hear someone pray or speak that way it shows that they do not know God or have a relationship with him. I would be confident to say these people are either baby christians and new in thier christian walk or just dull, meaning luke warm in thier christian walk. As a child of God he commands us to grow and become mature in his Word. The more we grow, mature and His love is perfected in us and we "know" him more and more. You can't trust and believe and have faith in someone that you don't know. If someone that you never met and you don't know just called you on the phone and asked if he could take your car on vacation you may have a hard time trusting him. If it were someone you knew, it still maybe hard to trust them and let them borrow your car but you would be closer to trusting them than the other. Trusting God is the same way! If the only time a person hears the Word of God or picks up thier Bible is on Sunday morning, They don't have much of a relationship with God and will not know Him. With all this said,Gods Will has already been done to heal and much much more through His son Jesus. But if you dont know him you wont know this.

I had to get this out.
God Bless.

I for one do not see anything wrong with praying for God's will, since Jesus Christ Himself is our example:

Luk 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

The reason I use the phrase "Lord Willing" in my regular talk is because of the scripture in James:

Jam 4:15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

This is because it is my desire to put the Lord first in my life, in my desires, in my actions.

I don't think it shows lack of faith or trust to pray that way. I think it simply shows that someone is saying, "Lord, this is what I am praying for, but even though it is my desire, I want Your will to be done, because that is the best thing for me. That to me shows faith, because a person is having faith that God's will is what is best.

DK Hammer,
I tend to agree sonewhat with you, but it really all depends on the prayer request. If it's a job or something smiliar I do pray for God's will.If it's my wife with a terminal illness I'm begging , believing ,fasting or anything else I can do. Really depends upon the situation. There are verses that back up both types of praying. There are verses that say "Whatsoever ye will." and there are those that say praying according to his will. not even the strongest of saints get what they pray for.all the time .Paul prayed 3 times that his thorn of the flesh would be removed...and it wasn't .

To get our prayers answered we must love the LORD and be surrendered to his will..An unsaved man may pray and should pray but if they expect their prayers to be answered they must surrender to the will of God as the thief on the cross did. his prayer was heard and he was saved as millions of others have been heard and saved..so if you want your prayers answered, pray in the will of God..seek to pray for things that honor him..Oh may we learn to pray in the will of God..
In 1 John 5:14-15 is the sweet assurance that if we pray in god's will He will answer our prayers..
"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, He heareth us, and if we know that He hears us, whatosever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him."
How sweet it is to pray in God's will knowing that He hears and answers prayer..

Thanks for this helps me think and understand more clearly. Am I correct that one would ask sincerely pray fast and beg for a vacation for hunting? One would say perhaps say.....if it is Gods will I will be able to take a vacation to hunt? If it is something as trying to say a love one from something that could be harmful or disasterous then would would pray whole heartedly for our Father to intervine. And it is thought that if one is not sincere in his faith the prayers will go unanawered and when and only when one has fully aaccpeted God and put all of his heart and soul into his faith then prayers may be answered?

Is this correct? I apologize if I sound dumb here. Has anyone other than me found it difficuolt to understand a scripture when you first read it? I am currently reading a book by Steven Arterburn. Brothers I have to sometimes read the same page three times before I get it to sink in.

Like others said I dont see as it not having much faith in God when you ask God if its his will to help this person. Praying shows you have faith him. We dont know what his plan is for us. I may not be as close to God as some. I try and have faith every day. Yes its very hard when things head south. Life doesnt seem like it wont get back to normal. What is normal any way? I know I have had many hard times in my life but everything happens for a reason either it be good or bad. I just try and tell myself have faith as best you can and believe that Jesus died for you. Once you die should hopefully live the rest of your life with God.

My point wasnot to get your feathers ruffled. This verse to me is a perfect point for me but I read and understand this verse of scripture differently than you. This verse tells me this.

I can have confidence in Him because I know him as my provider and my Father. If I know him, I should know what His Will is! Gods Will is not a secret. Now that I know what his will is, (healing, blessings, miracles, saving, etc...) I can pray to Jesus and say, "Jesus you have already payed the price for healing in _____ (whoevers body), I receive right now that healing to come and make this body whole!" Rather than " Oh God, please and I beg you if it be Your Will, heal their body." Why should I beg or ask for something that has already been supplied? If my dad payed for my first car, why should I take it to the bank to refinance it? Its paid for!
