In the 60s he still sounds the same and still plays awesome. One year he was voted guitarist of the year. This old fellow can flat out jam. All guitarist seculiar and Christian respect his talents....
Check out this 9 minute Christain man who has a heart for missions.

Don't have a soundcard that works right now so I don't know what's on that clip Chuck but I love some Phil Keaggy!! My favorite, from what I've heard is Vermillion Strands. One of his many instrumentals, love his style...and like all the good ones, makes it look so easy. That is until you snap out of the trance and realize exactly what he's doing!!!

Intro: Who is this guy?Ok, you're sitting back in your chairs, mouse in hand, wondering "Who in the world is this Keaggy character?" Well, you're not alone. Phil has earned the title "greatest guitarist you've never heard". Simply put, Phil is a world class guitar player. The kind of musician that would be billed with the likes of Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Jimi Hendrix and the like. But Phil is eons ahead of those guys, not because he's a great musician, not because of what he knows, but most importantly, it's because of WHO he knows. Phil really is the Master's Musician. His music has been giving glory to Our Lord and Savior for almost 30 years. But don't take my word for it. Phil says of himself "I'd rather be pegged as a 'religious guitar guy' than not be associated at all with Him who loved me and gave himself for me." Phil's music, whether instrumental or vocal, is simply an echo of his heart for God.

Nice thanks Chuck.. I took out the old guitar and played for my favorite audience today. My grand daughters were playing in the back yard, while I bar-b-qued some chicken and picked my guitar. Not a standing ovation like the old days, but then again, I don't miss the old days. About once a year I get back on stage just to jam with my sons, who are in the likes of Eric, Jimmy, and Phil. Thanks again. Bob <><

Hey, he's not of the same caliber as keaggy. But one of my favorite worship bass players plays for a Jason Upton. You guys can go over to his site and there's free streaming radio of pretty good quality. William the Lesser I think is what he goes by and he has his own site too. Its not a "driving" bass at all, just a "sing-along" style. In fact, I've never payed that close of attention but I bet he does alot of call-and-response with the bassline and piano. BTW does anyone know who plays bass fo Shane & Shane on their "Psalms" or "Rocks won't Cry" albums. Because whoever that is is exactly the way I wish I played. You never even notice he's there and then...WHAMM...you hear a little something in the bassline that sends you scrambling to find the rewind button!!!
FORGOT TO MENTION!!!! Chuck and Rev, do you realize he's doing all that he does with half a finger missing? Right ring finger I think. Yeah, pretty cool.

Houston Do you play Houston?? Yes..I saw his hand on his The Master's Musicain Album. He is missing part of a finger. I also like John Michael Talbot...and my favorite album is No Longer Strangers...awesome music taken from Ephesians 2.
You know that guy inthe video is Phil Keaggy right?? He has gone gray and bald. He doesn't look like Phil but it is Phil. I actually think the video is the best I've ever heard him play. I went to one of his concerts in the 80s. When you listen to the entire 9 minutes he givesit all he's got and even more.

Soilarch, I guess you could say I am partial to Bass Players. .. I love that driving bass too, not too many players know that the bass is a percussion instrument. This is a pic of my son and I taken just before I retired, maybe 12 years ago. P.S. I don't smoke anymore.
RE: This ones for Rev. Phil Keaggy video Christian jazz i think
I'm sorry Chuck, I've not even tried watching the clip because my computer makes no sound whatsoever right now. Yeah, I've visite his sight a few times and I guess you can say I'm a fan...so I know he's aged a lil. haha. Yes, I played bass for a few years at church and now just mess around with the acoustic guitar. *good* at neither, still haven't gotten a full handle on the theory, and can *get by* on bass as long as its not jazz[] And the guy I was asking about isn't the guy in the clip, its whoever plays bass for Shane&Shane on the albums mentioned.
Rev, I love the driving bass too...but I think people are drawn (well artists at least) to what they can't do themselves..and for me it that sweet, lopeing, fretless-wanna-be singing bass on Jason Upton's music that I love. Drivin' definantly has its places...what would blues be without it!!!
Rev, checkout "basslobster" on google and find that site. You'll love it! Lots of clips of some of the greatest! Wooten, Palidino, Patitucci, MICHAEL MANRING, Miller even some Jaco. Most of those clips exemplify the "percussive bass". (well, not patitucci...and if you've not heard some of the stuff Manring or Steve Lawson are doing...whoaaa, not exactly even easy to listen too.)
Sidenote: One of the two guys that I consider my spiritual fathers-in-faith is our music pastor and an ex-bass player. Doesn't play it much now as its one of those things that are kinda like "that was a different life back then". All I know is his life use to literally be drugs, sex, and rock and roll. Dealt drugs from a Crown Royal bag off the end of his bass. That life ended for him in the back of a panel van on a country road staring down a .357. Praise Jesus, that He's faithful to a mother's prayers!!!!!!! His style is unique and very percussive. Think Doobie Brothers (early) meets slap bass.
