RE: To obey the laws of government placed..
Smokeman, if you're much of a reader you might find a book called "Original Intent" by David Barton interesting. He studies the lives of the Founding Fathers and the Consitution (Sounds boring I know, but the cool thing is that he demonstrates that this country WAS founded on Godly principles by God fearing men. Something I'm well aware our history classes to NOT teach). To the question, David was under the leadership of Saul. Saul started out as a good king, ordained by God. He wasn't that way by the time David came into the picture. Yet David, knowing Saul did not follow God, remained under his leadership because he had been anointed by God. I can tell I'm doing a horrible job or portraying this but do you get the picture? Kinda? We will not have perfect leaders (Saul, U.S. Congress) but we are still to obey unless doing so would have us violate God's Will.
I guess what I'm saying is just because our law makers don't follow God...God still placed us under them and we should honor His decision in that.
Another book that deals almost entirely with learning to deal with imperfect leaders is a book called "A Tale of Three Kings" by Gene Edwards I believe. Its a short novel and is a fun read if nothing else. I highly recommend it to anyone/everyone. The "original intent" won't hold your interest though unless its something you are already interested in.
What I like about Barton's book is that he uses original documents only. If it wasn't written by a founding father or to a founding father he dismisses it. He's done his homework and makes a solid arguement. America was indeed founded on the principles of Christianity and seen as such a nation by others. If you want some excerps (sp?) I can give post some this weekend.
