Started over again thru the Old Test. And came to the point where Moses used his staff to get water from the rock. God was upset at him, but can't understand why he was so upset at Aaron and him. Whatch all think?
because they disobeyed God..because of Moses's unbelief,he smote the rock twice instead of speaking to it as God told him too.. by doing it his way he did not sanctify gGod and elevate Him as sovereign.. he gave up the opportunity to bring them into the promised land and Aaron also didn't get to go..so when God tells you to do something ya better do it..

Good to hear from you brother Mark. I really don't know. We do know that sin was dealt with much harsher and speedier in the Old Testament. I guess when you've divided the Red Sea, and drowned the entire army of Egypt it must do something to ya. Remeber Paul in 2 Corithians 7 And lest the greatness of revelations enhance me in pride, the prick of my flesh, an angel of Satan, is given to me, that he buffet me.
God searches the motives and the intents of the heart. It is a fearful reminder to us that God is no respector of persons. In the 80s Dave Wilkerson had an outer body experience where he went through the heavens. When he went very far he kept hearing a voice over and over again saying " Who is Dave Wilkerson ...who is Dave Wilkerson. When he awoke he removed himself totally from the public limelight for quite a while. ..God is no respector of persons. He deals with us all. He doesn't take sides and He has no grandchildren . Moses disobeyed .Usually when God judged folks in the Old Testament He judged the entire household. as in Acan and the accusers of Daniel. We are in the age of grace ...where we are to judge ourselves and make our own salvation sure. When He comes back we will all appear before the judgement seat. C7
Throughout scripture we learn that to those that have been given a lot, much is required. We also learn that leaders are dealt with much more strictly than laymen as well. Paul mentions that when he is speaking about teachers.
What I'm getting at is that Moses was a leader of leaders. He had wrought many miracles by the hand of God. He had sat face to face with God. His face shone with the light of God. This was a man that had no, and I mean absolutely NO reason to doubt, or waver or anything when it came to following God.
So when Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it as God had told him, he was disobeying. Did he commit some huge sin (as we tend to rank sins as humans)?? Of course not. But Moses was a man who had been given much, and therefore much more was required of him.
Anyway, that was my take. To be taken with a grain of salt for sure.

I see. I was thinking that but wasnt' for sure. I was listening to it on CD and rewound like 5 times, and God's command to speak to it was the only thing that stuck out.
Thanks for the info. I thought possibly it was because he didn't tell everyone that God gave you this water and and might have gave the glory to himself.
That would be my take as well. Then, as Chuck mentioned , there is a seeming diference in today's grace as compared to teh OT,which was muchmore severe. But,he seemed to llethis pride get the best of him, and resorted to 'taking matters into his own hands'--literally--and failed to do as was commanded. We always get into trouble when we say, consciously or unconsciously, "I know You say that this is how I should do it---BUT..."
That should be an eye openerfor us today. Many people are wandering around in spiritual deserts not ever entering into the promise land because of disobedience. God hasn't changed, He still expects us to honor Himwith commitment to Him through obedience.
Joshua 1:8 "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."
