RE: Have any of you read this book?
Well from what I can remember Piper coins the phrase "Christian Hedonism". He spends a fair amount of paper explaining exactly what he means by such a term because, as you can imagine, at first thought it seems like a complete oxymoron and the prelude to a heretical teaching. I can't do justice to his own explainations and defense of the term but I believe it to be sound. In essence, he lays out the idea that Delight/Joy/Happyness isn't merely a byproduct of obedience...it is obedience. We are instructed numerous times in the Bible to "Bless" ,"Praise" or "Glorify" the Lord. Piper then explains that nother glorifies the Lord more than when his children take delight/joy in Him. It kind of serves as yet another peice of the "why are we here?"..."what are we to do?" questions of life, and more pointedly "how are we to it?"
Its not a hard read at all, I've not read Piper before but if this is his usual style I like it very much. Very casual and almost conversational.
