GOT BUSTED

Well, I finally saw my first shoooter { In range}while bow hunting,
I set my stand up in the bay head yesterday where I had seen the 10 and 8 point buck. I was sitting about 12 foot high in a long leaf pine tree. There were about 13 medium to young oak trees around me and a 30 foot circle of palmettoes in front of me. The rest of the terrain was about 2000 cypress trees. The bayhead was dry.

I thought { I will just leave my bow on the tree hook..surely I can see or hear a deer if one approaches}

Lesson learned. At 7:30 I noticed a doe just on the other side of the palmetto island which is no greater than 12 yds in front of me. I hoping to grab the bow, nock an arrow , stand and fire. Well....I grabbed the bow. nocked the arrow BUT the doe is now within 10 yds of me and staring at me. I looked away from her eyes but she let out a high pitched nasel snort and continued snorting for 100 yds. [:@][:@][

]so ...good news..I'm gettin real close. Many lessons learned today.

Questions..

A Is it ok to shoot a deer at close range when she is looking you head on??

B Reb..I found 2 spots where hogs have dug a big hole to cool { about 6 foot circle 1 11/2 foot deep. Fresh muck} themselves. First one I've ever found. Do you think the hogs will visit this spot again or move on?

Lesoon #1- Never be without your bow on hand and ready.
2-Never predict where and when a deer will approach you and you cannot always hear them walk in the swamp or palmettos.
3- keep movement to a minimum, that doe probably heard you, or smelled you.

About hogs, they always don't go back to the wallows, unless there is water.
But they are in the areas, and best set up is to intercept their trails to and from water.

I pulled my bow back after the deer was gone to see if I could shoot sitting down. I could have shoot this doe sitting down. I can easily pull the bow back sitting. yeah..I will never hang my bow again. \C7

I just shot my broadheads in a broadhead target to make sure they go straight. I was shootiong Muzzies and Steek Force. The Muzzy came in first place. I'm going back later.

I dont know about with arrows -(a front chest shot?)i have only used fire arms to hunt with myself & with those it wouldnt matter much.

I Remember i was out deer hunting one yr on my property in the rattlesnake mtns I see up close( 50 yrs)suddenly a nice male lope before he sees me(i had no licences for lopes then). So i knell down in the grass& watch him for a bit . He spots me & charges my way real fast. Gets within less then 10 ft.

I jumped up fullhight& suprized him good[

-(i wasnt what he was expecting to find i guess)he puts the breaks on realquick. dust flys- he reverses direction fast!, Helets out a big snort& twang noise & is out of there in about half a second,

fast lill buggers.

I'm still tryinhg to get my first full draw with a bow. The venison would have been an added plus. I was real close this morning. I'm goign back at 4:00 PM 30 mile drive

Antelope is delicious.

Chuck, did you move to the areas I mentioned? No Chuck, wait until it gives you at least a 1/4ing shot. Do you have a Life Size Deer Target? Practice from the height you are going to be hunting from and within 30 yds. Did you get the Pendulum Sight?

Chuck, the hogs are roamers and are constantly looking for wet areas. If it is muddy, they might return to that spot.

Like brother Alex mentioned, if you seen deer in that area, don't hang your Bow. Keep vigilante at all times and scan with your eyes without moving your head. Try to use some kind of face camo and don't use anything that reflects from the sun.

Sorry you got busted, but it's going to happen many times more!

No Chuck, wait until it gives you at least a 1/4ing shot. OK ..then I wouldn't have had a shot anyway. She was straight awy.Do you have a Life Size Deer Target? I use the 4x4 from Walmart.Practice from the height you are going to be hunting from and within 30 yds.I do that brother.Did you get the Pendulum Sight? Yep..God made a very keen animal when he made the White tailed deer. She was beautiful Kind of glad she got a way. Those cute little ears and wonderful eyes. and her fur glowed in the morning sun.
