Proof that it's not just Satan... Psalm 90

...this mornings' devotional JUMPED out at me, for I KNOW the oppression I've been facing IS from God... contrary to what others have told me. Satan does his share of aggrivation, but when it's yourHeavenly Father dishing it out, you know it...... only HE can give a man troubles that can't be prayed away.....[&o]

Psalm 90
1Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
2Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
3Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
4For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
5Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
6In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
7For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
8Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
9For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
10The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
12So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
13Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
14O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

You may be right..but more over I am persuaded that God desires to give his children such things as wisdom, blessing ,protection and any other good thing. Yes..he does discipline us Hebrews 12 says .."To cause holiness in our lives." God is not a bully.He does prune us and correct us.Psalm 37 says if we get our mouth in order we will see many good days. 2 Peter says if we let love , faith and godliness abound in our life we will see open doors and "Never fall." Ther eare many precious promices that we believers have. If we seek Him first we know everything we need will be added unto us. If we choose to live in rebellious disobedience we will be very miserable. no doubt about that.

False views of God lead to false concepts of what God requires of man. He's not a Tyrant with a stick; He doesn't get sadistic delight in administering discipline "“ ReadHebrews 12:6; 2 Peter 3:9 Bad stuff does not come from God. In the O.T. He did but not in the N.T. Not now. And it's not that He Requires too much! Micah 6:8; speaking generally, what God requires summed up in one verse "“obedience, submission, & commitment.

I'm praying for you, that God will reveal His will to you.

I'll stick with my observations....

I agree with Remington Trae on this.God has not changed. He is patrient but will come back to judge every person. As Brian has said and you quoted. He still disciplines us. His ways are higher than our ways. He still brings down the proud and haughty and lifts up the lowly. Let's not forget Ananias and Sapharah. God expects obedience and holiness even today.The modern church is not out guideline or standard. The Lord Jesus Christ is our standard and the author and the finisher of our faith.

I firmly believe that our time here is as clay to the potter. I certainly believe it is in God's plan that our actions, attitudes, and even our thought life will have their rewards and consequences . . . .especially so for the person that has knowledge of God.

If I felt that God was chastising me, I would feel no need to prove that He will chastise. What I would be trying to prove is why I'm being chastised. Of course, one who has knowledge of God would know. I'd repent, and get it right.

By the way, I believe God chastises me also. I'm a sinner, and I sin, if He did'nt chastise me I would sin a whole lot more.

Amen to Chuck7... and what's said here is also good... sometimes it's NOT about chastizing... it's about what others view, and the message sent. we witness by example, way more effectively than words... God puts in every situation for a reason..some call it "allow", but "put" is more accurate, as HE controls ALL. when I think of the 40 years that Moses spent in the great outdoors, there was a reason, and SIN wasn't it... killing was the avenue God used to PUT moses where he needed him to be.... I do not believe in coincidence, other than the fact that God made 2 things happen @ the same time...

I agree that God is involved and He disciplines us, but he does not do it with delight. There is nothing pleasureable about spanking my daughter, and God doesn't get pleasure from watching us in termoil either.

I agree with that Trae..God does not delight in disciplining us but as our Father , he must at times. I just got a spanking this morning. Sometimes he uses my wife to spank me....just like he did John Wesley's wife to spank him.
