look out for my camper. It's a small silver "bubble" looking thing (only about 14ft), I'll have a white dome canopy put up, and a black chevy silverado xtra cab pickup. Stop by if you have a minute!!!

Hey Partner,
Which camping area will you be in ???
471 or Rockridge Road?
Maybe you , Hunter06 and I can have a cookout during one of the weekend days. We could all bring something in a cooler and after the hunt fix her up.Hunter06 will be coming in from the 471 Gate and I will be coming in from Rockridge.

Jamiie , I believe the 471 camping area may be a little less crowded. It encompasses a much larger area. If you are a birder bring binoculars. This is prime migratory time for the warblers and other song birds. I'll PM you my phone numbers in case you need anything.

but it's impossible to avoid walking in water this time of year.We had very little rain this year. Hunter06 and I are walking about 1 mile deep in the swamp and it's still dry.[/blockquote]

I guess all I can say is, Wow . Really. Dry? Wow. I never would of thunk it....

Well....the Green Swamp is made up ofmany ego systems.
1. High Pinelands
2. Pine Flatwoods
3.Tropical Hardwood Hammock
4.Freshwater Marshes
a. Sloughs
b. Emergent Abundant ...fields of saw grass in about a foot of water.
5. Cypress Swamps
a. Bay heads / cypress domes
Matt and I do our first walking through pine flatwoods...then a tropical hardwood hammock. We really are missing a genuine swamp.

Sounds like the triangle between Tanic Grade and Three-Run- Grade in Sumter County?

The section of Powder Grade in Lake County is also good.

Well, that's not the area I'm going in for the following reasons.
A. Gotten too crowed.
B. Very difficult to hunt..too big Some bayheads are miles long.
C. Tough terrain for us old timers. LOL
D. Very wet in places
You are right though..lot's of game there. And if your not afraidof long walks, gators and snakes you could score pretty good. If anyone parks along side of Powder Grade and simply walk 1/2 mile..{ Count 800 paces} you should be in good shape. Most hunters stop about 1/4 miles..you can see all of their stands.I prefer narrow funnels, acorn trees and quiet places away from othr hunters. Even if you don't score the trees draw the song birds and you have shade for our hot and humid weather.

lol,The harder you work for it, the more game you will take. Chuck, the areas I mentioned is where the dogs from Richloam chase all the deer and hogs into Green Swamp.

I never went into Green Swamp without Snake Boots.

Good point Rebel about work.
My main reason for advoiding that area is ..the stretch of road at tanic is very sandy and narrow, I would get stuck for sure. I drove that once last year and prayed toGod another vehicle wasn't coming .It they were I would have to have gotten out of the middle of the road and thus I would have gotten stuck. Also I like to explore one area real good instead of jumping around. I know the first 2 miles of Powder like tha back of my hand. I also know that other area that you and I discussed last year even better. It has more narrower funnels and oaks.
God bless brother,

Hey fellas ---- yes, I will be setting up camp in the "Cumpressco" area which, from the WMA maps, is the entrance off of 471. I have not seen this area and unsure of exactly where I will be, but most likely I will pick a spot away from any tent setups (don't want to disturb those who are not running generators).

I will have a propane grill and 2-burner stove for cooking -- you are more than welcome to use them, since it will just be me at camp alone. HOWEVER -- Please keep in mind that there is a possiblity that I will get a quota for ThreeLakes WMA. If I do, I will not go to Green Swamp!!!!!

I will post a message here or give you a call --- so please be prepared to have to do your cooking without me!!!!!

That's the area I was thinking of checking out. I should have some time on Friday to place a stand after I setup my camp.

Gotta run, but will check back in later today!

See you all later....
