Default Looking for insight into this parable

Luke 12:42-48(New International Version)

42The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

47"That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

Thanks

Thought provoking post Bro Pirk. At the first the master assigned a "faithful and wise" servant, who because of his own actions was then appointed a place with the "unbelievers", by the same master with whom he had favor in the beginning. It appears that his latter end was worse than his beginning. Favor, appears to have turned to wrath.

Verse 47 it talks about a servant who "knows" his masters will. Can one truly know the Masters will, without having the Spirit of his Master? The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit for they are foolishness to him. Except a man be born again, ect.
Then it talks about one who doesn't have the knowledge of the first, and commits the same things as the first, yet receives a much lighter punishment. It appears that the first servant should have been careful to maintain good works and followed his masters instructions more carefully. He could have saved himself many stripes brought upon himself because of his failure to obey his masters will.

Luke 12:42-48(New International Version)

42The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? Speaks of us..what we do with what God has given us.43It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns.Amen self explanatory...use your gifts and talents.44I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.Amen ...he blesses the faithful45But suppose the servant says to himself, 'My master is taking a long time in coming,' and he then begins to beat the menservants and maidservants and to eat and drink and get drunk. Procastinators.....46The master of that servant [ Jesus}will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers. According to this portion of scriptures ..folks who are not faithful to what God has given themwill join the unbelievers....

47"That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows.Sluggards will be punished.48But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows.Jesus issaying that there are levels of punishment here. Believerswho are walkin gin disobedience will be punished sorer than the unbelievers. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; Amen...we have all recieved alot through the cross. "Many are the benefits of the righteous."and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. Some have been given more...could be understanding, finances, talents. each one of us knows wat God has given us with .

Thanks

Sounds to me like it's saying we can totally blow our good standing with the Lord and be lumped in with the lost and suffer even more for it.
A word to the wise, cherish your redemption, strive to be faithful and obediant, take it to Christ when you sin, and above all in all things know that if it were'nt for Christ we would be dead in our sins and that any good thing that may be found in us is because of Him within us.

Good excavating there Mark.

To a certain degree, it is like the scripture in Peter that says the teachers will be judged in a harsher judgment. Is that in Peter or Hebrews? Anyway, I take it like that. Those who know are the teachers and they better have what they are teaching correct!

Those are very good insights indeed, all of them.

Let"™s see what we have. It is clear that the scripture is talking about saved people. Not just common saved people, but rather the church leaders and such.

If they fail to do as God has instructed them to do, they will be assigned a place among the un-believers. Not only that but they will be cut to pieces and then assigned their place.

Other places in the bible we see it records the place for un-believers is in hell fire and damnation.

So if a pillar of the Christian community can fall from grace to the depths of hell, all due to the actions of the saved person. Just how much easier will it be for the common believer to fall from grace?

If the church leaders don"™t enjoy a "śonce saved always saved"ť grace, then does anyone?

How do they lose there place among the saved?
By not doing "śworks"ť.

That covers verses 42-46.
[/align]
The servant who knows his masters will, that is you and I, and does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows.
Now what is that our Master/God wants you and I to do?

To love God with all our heart and to love our fellow man as we love ourselves.

If we love our fellow man, there will be acts of kindness and caring that can be referred back to. Can you love your fellow man and not do any acts of caring and kindness?

I say it is impossible. Now the question becomes, what does the scripture mean about suffering many blows.

I find the answer in the last of the scripture, "śFrom everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked"ť.

The more you know that you should do something (works in the form of doing acts of kindness for your fellow man andall the way up toleading asinner into the flock and caring for that flock) and you don"™t do those things, then the harsher your punishment will be.

How harsh can that punishment become, refer back to scripture 42-46.

So how does this impact the view that a person doesn"™tbelieve"śworks"ťare neededafter a person hasbeen givensalvation through grace?

Can you as a saved person ignore your neighbor"™s time of need and yet remain in the flock? If you do so continually does it just cost you your blessing you would have received, or does it cost you more?

Thanks
mr-pirk
