Feedback anyone? I may submit this for our bulletin next week.
Mark 14:3 And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. 4 But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, "Why was this fragrant oil wasted? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." And they criticized her sharply. 6 But Jesus said, "Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me. 7 For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always. 8 She has done what she could.......
Have you ever felt a bit overwhelmed by the amount of work needing to be done for the Lord? Have you ever thought that maybe you just weren't able to do most of the work thatis so available for the doingin the church? These feelings are common among folks today. Many would like to be active in the work of the congregation, but forvarious reasons they fall into inaction. Often, it'sbecause they're convinced they simply don't have the time or talent to get involved. The reality is there is so much work that could be done that it would be nearly impossible for one to be totally inadequate for any of the good things going on in the church today. But, let's just assume for a minute that you aren't well equipped to teach a bible class. Let's assume that you really do get completely tongue tied when you try to lead a prayer. You really don't have the patience to deal with smaller children in a bible class, or in a youth activity. The list of assumptions could go on and on, but there would still be important things that any christian would be capable of doing. For instance, maybe an elderly couple is experiencing failing health and find it difficult to keep up with their yard work. Can you push a lawnmower? I'd bet you can or you can at least find someone who can. What about a single mother who is struggling to make ends meet, much less being able to find the time to catch up on her housework. Can you push a vacuum and flick a feather duster? Would your hands mind some hot dishwater all that much? Or perhaps you happen to know a brother or sister who is in desperate need of a lift in spirits. Could you spare a couple of hours to just drop by their home and visit, or better yet, spare a few hours to invite them to your home for a good home cooked meal and some visiting afterward? I would bet that you would get as much a blessing from the performance of these simple tasks for your brethren, as your brothers and sisters would get from you helping out.
You see, it's not too hard to find things that need to be done. They don't
have to be grand undertakings that requirelots ofthought or preparation. They simply have to be things that are needed. Jesus commended the woman who annointed him in Mark 14, not becasue what she did was all that hard, but rather because "She did what she could".
Are you doing what you can?
