Leviticus 10:3, "Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the LORD and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. And Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke, saying: 'By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified.' " So Aaron held his peace."

Christian Rock is another way to reach people who listen to a certain type of music. Third Day is my favorite band and plays music that touchs my heart. I think too many confuse rigid rules of their making or taking verses out of context to make them "prove" their point.
Many of the sacred hymns millions sign every Sunday were words of conviction set to what were at the time beer hall common music to make it likely that the sinners of that time would listen, many convicted and turn to the Lord.

ADD I hope th efollowing does not put a wall between us. But I plan to answer your post in honesty. I'm a musician myself.

I listene3d to your download and hav eheard many like it. Here is what I think about that kind of music.
1. It is very fleshly ...the beat, attire and attitude of the singer stimulates the flesh and not the spirit.
2. It draws attention to the band and not toward Christ.
Just because the content is about Christain virtues does not necessarily make it Christian.
many Christians try to walk a fence .,,,and be as worldly as they can but still keep one foot on heaven.
3. Their style does not represt folks who are crucified to this world but folks who are decieved into thinking that Christ winks at sin.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

ADD I know you've seen on some of my post this year that I mentioned playing tunes of various rock stars. I regret making that statement . This year God has brought me a long ways. I've stopped playing those tunes. It's hard because I love the sounds. However' the Word is very clear on what kind of music I should play. I should do whatever truly gives glory to God. We are new creatures with a new song.
Psalm 40 {6and you gave me a new song,
a song of praise to you.
Many will see this,
and they will honor
and trust
you, the LORD God.

Back in the 80s I worked in a group home for the handicapped. I loaded up a group of young handicapped adults who loved the Lord to see Rez Band. Rez Band is a ' cool punk / rock band' Their lyrics talk about Christ their style portraying a rebelling attitude and music to stimulate the flesh. Some of the kids { 17-25} were crying , some were holding their ears } They were all saying "Please let's go." So we did.

4. "But they are reaching our youth" some may say. Maybe so , and maybe some are being a stubling block. I've seen this scenerio many times. They are intrduced with Christain rock and then later by another CD with the same beat but just a little different lyrics. Within a couple of months as their curiosity goes wondering they either download full blown rebellious grbage or by the CDs. Then...as they continually listen to the world councel of the fleshly musicains being seared in their minds .they began being the person of the tune of their mind.
God's Word says "As a man thinketh so is he" Although some may come to an alter call after one of those concerts.....I wonder about how sincere those conversions are.

I'm not talking about all music ADD only the heavy metal ones or ones that draw attention to the singers and not to Christ. My friend I believe I have a talent / gift in music. Many times before I would perform I would fast in order for God's spirit to play through me. "For it takes God's annointing to break the yoke." When you are playing before a group there is an awesome responsibility to sow seeds, bring glory to God, and to play skillfully but reverently. My songs are generally Psalms , hymns or spiritual songs that I'm hoping will draw the hearer to God.

I will end by reminding my opponents IMHO[8D]

ADD I like Pillar alot. As far as "types" of music being worldy, as far as I'm concerned if the message is good, than it's fine to listen to. Given, that you can say just as much with your lifestyle as you can with your song lyrics, that's why I encourage each person to look into the image of the bands on these circuits. Some of them are using the "Christian" label although there's not really anything Christian about them.

One of the bands that...I don't care for that claims to be "Christian" is POD. I've seen them live, looked into their stuff...and am uneasy about them, therefore I won't listen to em anymore.

That being said, I love Underoath, Blindside, and Pillar.

I also love Third Day but they're more praise and worship...with an upbeat sound. Their new CD Wherever You Are blesses me. Considering the circumstances (in my life) the first time I heard that CD I almost started crying...but I sucked it up because I was in the car with mom and dad. Great CD.

My pastor and I discussed this topic one day when driving back home from a Promise Keepers conference. He's even more conservative than I am - and THAT'S saying something! He didn't like the music at Promise Keepers because he thought the music behind the lyrics was too worldly and innappropriate.

I disagreed since I had thought the music that day had been awesome. Some of it had been actual hymns we sing in our church but with a more modern beat. (They have gotten a bit "over the top" IMO in the years since.)

However, I don't think you can go "be-bopping" into the presence of the Lord and have it be reverential, respectful and full of praise and worship -- there's probably a fine line there somewhere. I prefer country and bluegrass and, oddly enough, my pastor (who doesn't care for contry/bluegrass) said that the BEAT and TEMPO of that kind of music was OK. That surprised me.

this is a disgraceful joke...trashing a certain style of music... how dare ANYBODY that DOESN'T sing in Hebrew...or PLAY Hebrew instruments of that time period, say ONE WORD about Worship music...it's ALL "new world" in perspective...even the hymns we adore.. they are NOT sang in Gods' Chosens' language...PLEASE STOP. I've heard "Pastors", from the pulpit preach against this style, or that style, only 'cuz it's NOT WHAT THEY WERE BROUGHT UP SINGING...get real. How judgemental...THAT'S dangerous, JUDGING...and it's actually Heresy from the Pulpit!!!
Sorry, as a musician given the GIFT from GOD to play music, I LAUGHT, and disgustingly shake my head @ such triffle and maliced teachings.
Shame on ANYONE who claimes that the "new" christian music is evil... there MAY be some bad ones in the biz for the notoriety/$$, but God will QUICKLY uncover true motives.
